Question premium stereo amp?

I just bought 4 kenwood exelon 6x8's, a JL microsub 8.1, and an MTX thunder 4405 to power it all. I will keep the factory HU, and add two line converters so I can hook it all up. My question is, do I need any adapter/converter to bypass the tiny amp that came with my 2001L. Is this premium amp in the dash? If I use one 4 channel converter, will I still have control over balance and fade adjustments? Can I just forget about this factory amp, or should I remove it? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I wasn't sure, I saw something on one of the forums stating their might be one. If nobody has run into this problem, their probably isn't one.

Hi Kidd, the only advantage you'll get by going with the 4 channel system and stock HU is fader control. I tried just keeping the factory HU and adding an amp and it didnt sound too good. I bought a single disc HU and went through the preamp outputs and got 100% better sound. even with that awesome amp the frequency range is still determined by the head unit.

Thanks. The only reason i'm keeping my stock HU is because where I live and work, about once a month someone tries to break in to my truck. I wan't to be as low key as possible. thanks again for the info though.

I just installed a Kenwood in dash CD with Memphis 5x7 two ways in the front and Kenwood 3 ways in boxes in the rear. Yhe Memphis speakers are awesome. I did all the work myself.

However the factory amp screwed me up. I hat to go to the stereo shop to get it wired right. Sounds great now.

The only problem is a slip of the screw driver while mounting the single DIN unit. That resulted in 4 stitches and a tetanus shot.

Oh well the stereo was worth it!

I thought we just went through this and everyone on this thread states there is NO factory amp. What do you mean buy that statement? Are you talking about the 2001 L stereo?

Sorry for the confusion. I am talking about my 97 F150 supercab. I picked up on the thread because of the factory amp issue. My truck does have the amp.
