Chip Question
I have read many posts on chips, but I am still a little confused. I just got a 2001 Lightning about a week ago. From what I understand, the chip can be taken out to do warranty work, and that it is not traceable? Also, if all 8 cylinders are used while shifting from 1st to 2nd, than would the transmission not last as long? Is there anything relatively inexpensive that could be done to help the tranny?

Do yourself a favor and buy the chip first, It cost more than the line valve mod but it also gives you more and it firms up the shift somewhat. You may not want the line valve after installing a chip. I know I'm happy with mine.

I have allmost 20,000 miles on my JDM chip. I have had no problems with the trans, and my truck runs awesome.
Best mod I ever did.
Good luck

I went with a JDM chip and the truck runs better than stock, gets better mileage, and has a lot more power.
If you have to take the truck in for warranty work, put it back to stock and drive it a week. I've done this each time for warranty work and had no problems. This is no guarantee though.

I have the JL street chip in my truck and have had no problems except for a blown spark plug. I put the chip in at around 2K miles and currently have around 15K miles. It works very well see sig for best time. Take the chip out and drive a while w/o it if you're going to take it in for service. Or some have bought a new pcm and had it programmed. Then use the replacement pcm for the chip and use the original when/if they have to take the truck in for service.
I was recently at Diablo sport doing some testing and plugged in a hellion scan tool after removing my chip, there were no codes at all, if you are concerned about the service dept. finding a code you can buy a scan tool yourself and clear the codes, just a thought.

That wont hurt the trans though, will it?
