Question Is this sound normal

Okay, Fellas, I've only had the L for 48 hours now and have a question about a sound I've heard since day one.

I have noticed a slight rattling sound -- not really a tinny rattling but more of a very fast but soft dieseling -- heard from just behind the radio/environmental controls. I can really hear it in drive while the truck is completely stopped. If I roll a little, the sound goes away. When I take it out of gear, the sound goes away. I don't really hear it in reverse like I do in drive, and it usually cuts off immediately when moving from drive to park or neutral. At first, I thought it might have been the transmission -- and it still may be -- but almost wrote it off as the normal sound of this modified transmission. However, I think the sound is coming from the supercharger, for it is just in front of the firewall with the radio panel right behind it. If that's the case, why can't I hear the sound in reverse as much as I do in drive? I'm sure there is no need for boost while backing up, but would the supercharger act any differently between drive and reverse?

Another thing, my hearing is probably the best sense I've got, so I'm very attuned to any "out of the ordinary" noises when it comes to this truck. This means I may be overly sensitive to a noise that may be normal, since I never really owned a vehicle like this one.

Any ideas you have are welcome. Sorry about the novel.

Eric

P.S. By the way, it is a 2001

Talking Thanks guys

Thanks for the info fellas. Happy to hear it isn't gonna 'splode on me too soon. Think I'll go do some do-nuts in the neighbor's yard. Just kidding. I'll wait until 1500 miles to do that.
