FIRST KILL: Lightning Zaps Prowler!!
This is my first kill as I have only recently passed 1000 miles and am just now starting to goose it. The Prowler was bright yellow with chrome wheels and Maryland tags (can't be too many of them around so identifiation is possible). He creeped up on me and we both were checking each other out on the Dulles Toll Rd (Northern Virginia). We were cruising at around 65 mph when I suddenly saw his headlights tip up. I knew it was *on* and mashed the pedal. The L downshifted and seemed to lift itself into the air like a giant tortoise (instead of squatting), surging forward with authority. The S/C's roar completely overwhelmed the cabin and any sounds the Prowler was managing to produce. In an instant I had about half a car-length on him and continued to gain a couple feet until ~100 MPH, when I saw his headlights dive and he shut it down. We resumed our civil pace and exhanged grins. All in all a mutally fun experience.
My L is completely stock (mechanically), and I was very satisfied with it's performance. I would have loved playing with the Prowler from a stop, as I imagine things would have been just as interesting. Just thought I'd share my excitement.
and please don't give me any crap about how Prowlers are weak and underpowered!
OK, OK, I know they only have a 3.5 L V6 with 253 hp, but that featherweight sled can pull close to a 14 sec 1/4-mile @ 99 MPH so it's not an automatic victory by any means!
Besides, everyone else on the highway probably thought the Prowler would easily take my Ford pick-up truck. I'm sure all were thoroughly surprised to see the L beat a relatively obscure (if weak) "hot rod." I can't complain - not a bad first kill considering I could have wasted it on the little RX-7 that kept buzzing around us like an annoying gnat!

Viper??? No way. I hope I never see big brother.
Brian, I saw your post and am going to try and come out this weekend. I was supposed to go to Atlanta this weekend but my trip may be cancelled considering the current global situation.
NOSTROMO, I know you were kidding, but there are a lot of V6's that command RESPECT! Take the new Mercedes AMG SLK-32, with a S/C 3.2-liter V6. It makes 349 hp (109 hp/liter!), and would most likely smoke a stock L. Like the L, it only comes with a slushbox.

Good Kill! I was wondering how those would do against an L. And hey, the prowler initiated the challenge, ya gotta go with it! It's all part of the fun of owning the L.

Gee, lets just beet up old ladies, take candy from babies and start racing minivans while your at it!!!
Just kiddin!! Good kill!!!
Even though a Lightning would destroy a Prowler, i'm sure you gave the traffic a good show. To me, that is the funnest part about killing in my Lightning.

You guys are right, the Prowler is not the best competition, but made for a pretty dramatic show indeed.
I need to change my name on this board. "BMWBig6" never went this fast....

Good kill Ben. You are now the designated "Chrysler killer". When we go to the cruise-in this saturday, I'll go talk smack to the local Viper club for you. Get you all set up to kill some vipers. Then we'll call you the "Vipernator" or something like that. J/K See you saturday.

I have an 01 Red Lightning too, and I must say that MAN THAT IS ONE BEAUTIFUL SHOT OF YOUR TRUCK in your sig, except maybe too much apartment building and not enough tailgate. Anyway, I was admiring the pic and got curious, what is that other red ride in the background? M3 maybe? also what wax do you use? looks great.

Hey Dennis,
Man I don't even have a chip! Those Vipers will pull me in reverse!
I hope to see you Saturday too! BTW, I think I saw the same Prowler again today! It had chrome wheels so I'd bet it was the same one. Parked at a hotel on Rt. 7 in Tysons. I couldn't confirm the tags though.

Superfords,
I need to photochop that sig pic to remove the building and make it a long stretch of highway instead. Probably easier for me to just reshoot the photo.
The red BMW peeking out from behind is the "BMWBig6." It's a slightly modified 535i - the 525's have the "baby six." Unfortunately, I just sold it to get the L. It was a sweet ride too, in a different kind of way of course. You can check it out at: http://www.gearfx.com/535/
BTW, I use Blitz Wax.
