??? Does My L Suck ???
??? Does My L Suck ???
As my signature states, my best time to date is a 14.153 on a 2.253 60' time (F1's) going 98.008 MPH. I have had better 60' times (best is a 2.089) but it seems like at the time the truck was to hot. I can never get the truck cool enough and cut a good 60 foot time together. The conditions here in Phoenix are very hot as you can imagine. On an average night it can be between 100 to 110 degrees with about 40% humidity. When I ran my best time it was last weekend when the temp. was 89 degrees.
Is this a very poor best ET for a lightning in this kind of weather and can I expect my L to break the 14 sec. times once the weather is around 60 or 50 degrees later in the year.
I see lots of posts of L owners posting their best ET's and it makes me think that I got the short end of the stick. (maybe my L was made on a friday around 3:30pm)
Anyway, tell me what you guys think and feel free to post some of your personal bests so that I can have some reference as to where I stand.
Laters and thanks,
Joel

Joel,
I'm here in Houston where it is hot also. Probably, the best and least used mod for hot weather is the intercooler jump out switch to run the pump with the engine shut off. The intercooler fluid gets really hot, really quick, and does NOT cool down very fast. Running the fluid constantly while in the pits and up to the burnout will keep the fluid 10-15 degrees cooler than shutting off and starting the engine. You can run the pump all night and you will still be able to start. Ice bags on the intake and intercooler tank are a winner too.

Get some MTET streets and quit screwing around with the F1s.

Looks right... If you do some searches and look at some people sigs for 99 and 00 L's, you'll find it was pretty tough to cut better than a 13.8 in a stock 99/00.
60' should be closer to 2.05 for those times... be sure to launch no higher than about 1000/1100 rpms. No need for a fancy burnout either, just clean em off a bit walking around the waterbox.

noelvm, sounds like a really good mod. Where can I get one and how much would it cost. would it be better to by that first or go with other mods to get my truck better. What size of tires would I be looking at for the MTET's and what would the damage to the wallet be.
Thanks.
MaxPower, once the light turns green do i gun it immidately or should i wait a split second or so before getting to full throttle.
Any advice will help.

Mod for switch -Metal switch single pole double throw about $10.00. Wire and Wire loom about $10.00. Mount center lead to pump, one end to cut end and other end to fuse box. Run wires thru diapram on drivers side firewall.
MT Et Streets are $150 each plus tax here. I've been running them on two ford 16X7 spare tire rims I got from a wheel shop for $40 each. No Tubes. They work fine on the narrow rims. If you have a little extra you can get some Ultra 16X10s from discount tire for about $100 each.
There are several good old threads including one by me on wiring the intercooler pump switch that you need to do a search for and read.

Launch...
I tend to almost mash the throttle at the last yellow. My last 2 good runs of a 1.92 and 1.87 were both giving it almost all throttle all at once.
The 1.92 60' was done at ~1200 rpms and the 1.87 was at 1000-1100 rpms.
There was a few guys at the track that said "I love watchin that truck launch! It just squats and GOES!"
