UPDATE: Misfiring 2001 Lightning

Well, I want to thank everyone who offered me advice on my misfiring L. Here's the latest:

#6 Injector was stuck open and subsequently replaced. Took them over a week because they had to special order the injector. They did *not* replace the spark plug on that cylinder, which I thought was kind of odd. (Wouldn't you think the plug was fouled from running so rich?)

I'm going to pick up the L tomorrow, and hopefully it will idle and drive like it did 3 weeks ago when I bought it brand new. Let's hope the next 800 miles will be less eventful. Making payments on an abused loaner car is not pleasurable....

BMW:

I know it's been frustrating(inadequate word) for you. I tried to put myself in your place and I know this truck problem almost drove you crazy. Hopefully, everything is back to perfect/normal?

I've been very 'lucky' in that nothing has happened(yet?) to mine. What's that old Latin saying? "E Pluribus Carborundum!"--don't let the bastards grind you down!

LIGHTNINROD,

Thanks for the kind words of support - I know you have been following my threads from last week.

I am in Atlanta now and won't be able to pick up the L until tomorrow. If it sounds, drives, or smells any different, I'm leaving it at the dealer.

I know I probably come across as a whiner, I was just really excited to get a new L 3 weeks ago, and then utterly heartbroken when it died.

Any thoughts on the #6 sparkplug? My BMW/Porsche mechanic tells me to insist on a new one regardless of how it looks/runs (cheap insurance).

E Pluribus Carborundum?

'Rod:

I see that Latin isn't your strong suit.

What you just quoted loosely translates to "abrasive from many", whatever that means.

I believe that the quote you're looking for is "illegitimi non carborundum", which actually doesn't form a proper sentence in Latin, but translated into American slang would read something like "don't let the bastards grind you down". Folks like to toss that one around to sound clever.

Just trying to help, of course.

finally good news i new it had a bad injector anyway make
sure they changed the oil to get all the fuel out don't
worry about the sparkplug
with a stuck open injector there is so much
fuel it couldnot fire if anything that plug is cleaner than the
others

Red face

Modularman,

They did not change the oil but they did go ahead and replace the plug. I am at 850 miles so I figured I'd change the oil now anyways (break-in is about done). I didn't know I'd have to worry about fuel in the oil... is it ok to drive it a week before changing the oil?

Also, someone on the NLOC forum posted that they hoped I didn't bend a rod. How could THAT happen????

The L seems to idle and run ok (so far), so I'm assuming the engine survived.

Thanks again for the responses everyone, even if half of them were in a *dead* language!

Believe me, you'd know it by now if you bent a rod. I'm sure it's fine
