Slow '01 timeslip...what gives?
Here's the story;
I occasionally drag race at Wall Dragway outside of San Angelo, Tx. My 99 turned a best of 13.85@99.6 with a Superchip R9. Not too good, but the track location is not the best @ 2000ft elevation with marginal traction.
I took my new bone stock (K&N only) 2001 out the first weekend in August and could only muster a 14.33@98.8.
The conditions were not that good: 98F, moderate humidity, slick track. The truck only had 1200 miles on the clock, I hope this is the reason for the slow times. She does seem to be loosening up now at 2500 miles.
Any ideas...did I get a slow truck, will a chip/filter/pulley get me into the low 13's (high 12's aren't likely at this track) like others on this board?

With about 1200 miles and 98-100 degree heat my stock 01 ran 14.30's all night. With 4000 miles and much better air (about 78-82) it ran 13.86. Temp plays a large factor in good 1/4 mile times. I am going back tonight to hopefully see 13.6's, temp is about 72 today and will probably be in the 50's tonight.
With 800 miles on the clock my 01 went 13.5@102
with just a JDM chip and k&n panel filter. A chip makes alot of difference!! JDM claims 40 rwhp with his warm weather program!
I believe it, it made a huge difference in the way mine ran. Dont get me wrong,Im sure JL and PSP are just as good from what Ive read here.

The way our 01 runs. our first runs with our 01 was 14.90's to the 70'sof course it was 100 Degrees and 90% humidity. Now as of last week it went 14.02's consistantly with Ronda driving. I went 14.08 in it which is great I think. It has 40 LBS of air in the F-1's a magnaflow muffler, NGK TR-6 plugs, and a K&N Air Filter and the airbox has the bottom cut out of it. I have heard alot of 13.8's comming from bone stock 01's but have yet to see one do it the fasest I have seen out of a show room truck was 14.09 on a 60 degree night but lots of humidity the dew was settling in pretty heavy. I have researched this alot but most people say its due to the 2.3 to 2.6 short times I would agree!!

You know it's really kind of funny that all these people are posting poor 01 times. What's funny is that when the 01s first came out in the cool spring, several of them were running 13.5s stock, which indcated a pretty good gain over the 99-00s. However once the summer air came, people are reporting worse times than the 99-00s. The average 99-00 was running 13.8s, and it seems the average 01 runs closer to 14.0. I know that our own 01 test truck turned a slower ET stock than our 99 test truck did stock. From the day I picked the 01 up, it felt weaker.
However, the 01s seem to be responding to mods much better than the 99-00s. I have many 01 customers running 12s with just our chip, filter and pulley. Our own 01 went 12.80s with just chip, filter, pulley and valve body. And that was at 108 mph. 99-00s barely reached that on 12.50 trucks. So even though the 01s seem a bit slower stock, be happy that with less mods than a 99-00, you should turn impressive ETs.
