Winter Driving

My friend has a 2001 Lightning & is concerned about how these handle in the snow. I told him to put some weight in the back. Any experiences or ideas???

See if you can find a set of 16" Expedition or F150 tires that someone's trying to sell. Same as what your spare is. That should help a lot. The weight in the back is a good idea too.

Do a search on 'winter tires'. Lotsa information here. I drive mine all winter with 500# in a crib in the bed and winter tires on Expy wheels. No problems if you stay out of the boost.

Ahhh, snow.......it will be here soon

What I used for winter is 2 FIRESTONE spare tires mounted on spare tire wheels. That along with 2 80 lbs. bags of sand in the bed was enough. It handled well enough in anything under 6 inches, but anything more...and the 4 x 4 Jimmy comes out to play.

found a set of expy rims for 150 on ebay, and still tracking down some tires, about 300 pounds later and the ground effects striped off, ready for the white stuff.

i just pull the effects for personal pref. i dont see a need for them to get riped off on some snow bank, plus i dont like the idea of salt and slush freezing behind them, no problem on the bed effects it is figergalss, but the door and fender are rustable sheet metal...
