Thumbs up Test drove an 01 that burned rubber at will

Test drove an 01 while waiting on my 00.This particular 01 would burn rubber from a standstill at will with 32 miles on the truck, and this was after watching a dealer employee jump start the 01 lol. I know my 00 would not burn rubber stock with 32 miles and did not show 9.5-10 lbs of boost on the stock gage. Is this L a ringer or are all the 01's this strong?

Thumbs up It's true, It's true

They are all that strong

With 48 miles on mine I tried to launch her just to see what they had, well as soon as the tires broke loose, the boost gauge quickly hit 10psi, and the a$$ off my bolt looked like it was ridding shot gun

Every time I get on mine a ***** eatin grin apperas on my face, I can't wait for the chip/filter/pulley combo!!!!!!!!!!

The only problem is that I don't think I will ever want to stop driving it. Man I love this truck

Greg,
My 01 made 9.5 to 10 pounds of boost new also and i believe i got one of the good ones!
Go drive the silver one and see how that one compares and then bring it home and enjoy! It will be a fresh start and not have to go through what your having to deal with anymore!

Matt

Matt, i would trade but the trade in value for a 99 with 28k is 25k and they are offering 21.5k. If i could find a dealer that does x plan, has a silver one and will give me 23.5k for my 00... then i will trade. Anyone no of any dealers who give reasonable trade in dollars? greg

ibfast,

Unfortunately, the trade-in on a '99 in Michigan is not anywhere near $23.5K. You might be able to sell it retail for that amount with new tires, but no way on a trade.

With '01s on the lot, 0% financing, and the general economic situation, resale on the Ls seems to be tanking.

Dealers around Detroit are acting like they don't want my trade at all. I am close to giving up on getting an '01 because I don't want to take that kind of bath.

That is a pretty good trade in value. My dad went to the dealer and they offered him 19K trade-in for his perfect 99 with 5600 miles!

the thing you have to remember at least here, is you don't pay the tax on the trade difference.

you are going to save around $1300 in tax by trading in, add that to the 0% financing and your not doing too bad, as long as you only pay about 29,500 for your new lightning

i traded in my cargo van, took a 3k bath, but save 1200 in tax, got the 3k off msrp (paid invoice) and now have 2.9 for 5 years, all in all, not a bad deal

I was thinking the same thing that beefcake said. You do not pay taxes on the amount they give you on your trade. I had a 99 L with 25,204 miles that had the orig. tires on it (needed tires), reason for the trade. LOL I joined the EAA and purchased using the X plan @ $29,261 (They charged me for window etching). I purchased @ sticker + the window etching. The trade in, they started at $18,000. I stripped everything off, 01 front/rear lights, bed rug, all perf parts, ARE cover and class III hitch (did not come with it I purchased separately). With all said and done they offered me $20,500 so I took it. With the 2.9 my payments only went up less than $2 per mo and 3 additional payments.

Baddog and others, my trade is an 00, not a 99.I could not find any blue book trade in value on a 00...just a 99. They have all colors available locally and will except x plan. These dealers have no used gen 2s on there lot.So do you think 21.5 is a good trade in on a 00 with 28k,billit grills, hard cover, turn signal mirrors, new tires with 3k on them ect. Baddog, the 01 i drove was red by the way

It sounds like a good trade in price. If I were you I would take all the extras off, grill, mirrors ect. They will not give you anything for them. Once you take them off, sell them on Ebay or something to get some of your money back.

Greg,

Oops. My mistake.

Yeah, $21.5 K seems a bit light for a 2000.

I really didn't think the values on these things would plummet like it has. For resale, Ls seem no better than regular F150s. That is compounded by the fact that many of us paid sticker for the early ones. It makes the raping that much more severe.

The dealers around here are selling so many A & X plan Lightnings new, that they don't even have or want used Ls on the lot.

Greg,
My dealer gave me $24,600 for my 99 with 20,000 miles on it but that was for sticker. They traded me for $8000 and you should be able to trade for $6000 somewhere for your 00!

Thanks BadDog, now I know where to give credit to.

Jeff, i might go tommorow. I wish we didn't have to pay sales tax on the sticker with trade in like the lucky owners above. But living in michigan they tax everything lol.
