My last venture were my headers and that was heLL to get them in there but i got em. Also about how much gain do you get from the pulley. im trying to do the numbers but i dont know if boost add a linear amout or exponential? i hope exp

Two pulleys:

I have installed both the PSP and JL's pulleys. The PSP was first and therfore the most difficult--only because the OEM bolt that holds the OEM pulley on is torqued on so tightly. I couldn't break it loose--had to get a neighbor/ car junky to get more grunt behind the 1/2" breaker bar and bust it loose. Other than that(and if you're strong/big enough, it won't be much of a problem), it's a 45 min to 1 hr. job. They both supply the 'special' tools to do the job easily. I removed the PSP(very easy--now held on with 3 Allen bolts) and installed JL's(btw, his is aluminum-lighter) for the added boost.

Extra boost is felt immediately and all thru the rpm band--a pulley, an open air box kit, and a chip really work great togeather--they compliment each other.

As to JDM's pulley--it's a different 'breed of cat'. I have no experience(other than reading all the posts) with it. It looks like it would be harder and take longer to replace? It retains the OEM accessory belt pulley cage. JDM believes this is the safer, long-term route to take.

If I have any bias, it's to Johnny Lightning because he(and his wife, Sue) took the time and expence to drive their L to middle Ga. for Nat Mustang Race event. They were very nice and helpful to a non-L owner(me) at the time. I know they've heard "I'm gonna git me one of those trucks" many times and it didn't happen. This time, it did. We are all fortunate to have some wonderful tuners and businessmen in the L world.

Talking

I got the PSP 2lb lower pulley. Its good for 2 lbs of boost i love it well worth it. Also i just put on the 2.5 upper pulley. Before with just the lower pulley and my other mods i was getting like 13 lbs of boost now im getting 14.5-15 lbs with both. As for not wanting to spin the blower past 13lbs of boost i like you was scared at first that the upper and the lower might be to much. But after making some post on here i found out that easterisland has been running the upper and lower pulley for over a year now and he drive his truck something like 200+ miles a day. Also i think johnny lightning is now running his 4lb lower pulley with with the upper to with no problems. Another thing you have to remeber is that you arent driving with boost on all the time. When im on the highway going to work with her im usually cruising like 80 with no boost for most of the ride. Also after talking to Sal he said these trucks can handle it and i trust him.

I'm running both pulleys.
The upper is the SHM pulley, the lower Jl 4# getting about 14 lbs boost.Numbers in signature tell the story.

I've only had my truck since 4/28/01. I do have about 16,000 miles on it now. I have the LFP upper pulley on since about 8K miles and the JL 3# lower since around the 10-11K miles. I usually only change out the upper when I tow stuff. I drive a lot of freeway miles about 130-160 miles per day. I usually drive pretty hard. I've ran at the track about once every two weeks.
I just bought the JL 4# a couple of days ago.

I am very happy with the JDM 2# lower pulley. I also like the fact that it retains the stock crankshaft extension support. Installation was easy and the instructions were great.

The truck went 106.01 MPH with only the chip, filter and pulley in full trim.

As soon as the weather cools down (and I learn how to drive this damn thing) the #'s will get better. =)

I think you would see a noticeable gain in "seat of the pants" performance, no matter which of the "big 3" tuners' pulleys you choose. They are all quality products. I have a JL pulley on my 2000 L, and it is awesome! The main thing is......no matter what pulley you choose.......have your chip tuner reburn the chip to compensate for the higher Air/Fuel mixture that will be generated. Failure to do so could create a lean condition, which could be very costly. Good Luck.

like J Man said SHM= Sean Hyland Motorsports. In the mustang world they are big and growing fast, originating in canada, they were really the first people to do anything with Fords "new" modular 4.6 motors. some people like them, some people don't but they have a good amount of experience with Ford 4.6's and the 5.4 is very similar to that, basically just a stroker. If I'm not mistaken, they are relocating their entire operation to Georgia or somewhere down south.

later,
chris
