Any problems running both upper and lower pullies?
Any problems running both upper and lower pullies?
Currently Im running the upper pulley only but will have the lower one installed next weekend @ FFW in Ennis. A friend I work with just orderd headers from JBA for his 01 and the guy at JBA told him they had seen the blowers on Lightnings explode and pieces go through the hood due to running both upper and lowers!
Anybody heard similiar stories? Just wondering if this is total BS.
Its got me gun shy now on installing the lower on mine.

According to the magnuson website, the max rpm's on the 112's is 14,000. What would a 2lb. lower and a 2lb. upper spin it?

Johnny Lightning has been runnin' two pullies but I don't know for how long. IMHO, I think you'd be better off with his 4lb. lower pulley but since you've already got the upper, that's not what you're likely to do?
Other guys have been runnin' two and I've been thinkin' about it. I don't believe the s/c blow up stories--some guys like to make you think they know more about these trucks than they do.

I'm running the SHM upper and the JL lower,the only bad thing I can say is the tires are burning off the truck.I'm using the power cooler and have had my intercoler replaced,the new 01 intercooler has a bit larger capacity so I think the blower is keeping cool enough.I think with the combo of the 2 pulleys your turning about 16,000 rpm,I could be wrong but that's what iI have been told.
As far as the blower coming thru the hood I SERIOUSLY doubt it,that's not to say we might not end up shelling out the bearings in the blower,but the truck runs great and the lower pulley you'll love.I think I'm going to remove the upper pulley and go Nitrous.That will test the blower to the max.
Anyway I wouldn't worry just keep it cool and don't do alot of back to back runs let it cool a bit between runs,that's the way these things run best anyway.IMHO

Thanks for the replies! I have faith again in installing the lower, esp. since eaterisland and 99svtlightning are running uppers with 3-4 lb. lowers!!!

easterisland is running 7.99 1/8 mile.....
**my truck with just the JL#4 lower is running 8.14-8.17 1/8mile.
99svtlightning is running 12.25 at 110.15? is this the power cooler talking or the upper pulley? is this on slicks? or on F1's? theoretically, the upper pulley is 1.5lbs boost right? with his lower #3 we should be about the same as far as boost goes.

I was thinking all day today, screw it, I'll just do the Nitrous, but now I'm thinking about that upper pulley....hmmm.
