Discount Tire Co.
Hi all,
I would think twice about taking my truck to the Discount Tire Co. in Plano (far north Dallas) on 75 and Plano pkwy.
Even though $1800+ was spent at Discount Tire, they refused to fix/replace an $80 part (purchased/installed by them) that was damaged when the aftermarket wheels were removed.
Talks with the mamager produced no results. Filed complaint with the BBB.
DTC, you lost my business for an $80 part! Your choice! No Discount Tire for me!

I've had only good experiences with the Discount tires in San Antonio (2 locations). I got a flat on my Nitto 305/55/18 and they replaced it free, no questions asked. They had it in from the warehouse in Granbery in less than 2 days.
Unfortunately, a Discount Tire store, or Car Dealership, is just as good as the store manager. You need to find out who the District Manger is for your area for Discount and write him a letter. Letters are much better than phone calls. Be polite, state your case, add that all your friends have received great servide at other Discount Stores, including me, and ask him for his help.
This will get you some action.

Matt below makes a good point. What exactly was the problem. You were somewhat vague.

I think this guy works for the competition or something... otherwise he wouldn't have posted it to about 10 of the forums on the board.
Sometimes businesses suck, sometimes you get ripped off, I can understand being pissed off but posting it to every forum is not a good way to resolve the issue.
By the way, spending $1800 on wheels and tires doesn't make it so they have to bend over backwards for you. They are an organization just like others out there, and they have limitations to what they can do "for free", especially if you don't go with their offered warranties, etc.
And you never mentioned what the damage was. Was it just a scratch on the wheel or what? If you expect them to replace a wheel that cost $200 or whatever because they scratched it, good luck.

Hi all,
Noelvm,
I would have to agree with you. A store is only a good as its manager, hence I indicated the location of the store in question.
attadams,
I would have to agree with you too. Trying to get a part replaced for damage that does not interfere with its basic function is "tough" as one would say. However, if you think about it, would anyone drive a truck that has been for example been rear-ended months after months without fixing it first? (Assuming that the damage is only cosmetic)
I have reached the point where I no longer believe that spending more time to "resolve" this issue is beneficial. You are correct again, I have posted the same thread to every forum to basically warn fellow members.
Working for DTC sounds interesting, but I don't like getting my hands dirty..
Noelvm,
I appreciate your suggestion. Thank you.

well before I'll comment more I gotta know what is defective/broken and how discount tire is responsible. FOr example, heres a few different scenarios...
The wheel/tire has a small pinhole in it so it basically works but you have to keep filling it with air and it has done it since day one. This is something discount tire should cover.
A scratch in the wheel. Been that way since day one, yeah they should've inspected it before installing it, but you should've noticed it and refused it in the first place. Caused by you, no way they should cause it. Caused by one of their employees, I think they should at least cover part of it.
A bent wheel. If its a factory defect, I'd expect for them to exchange it with another one, as long as I wasn't an *** about it. If you caused it, I wouldn't expect them to replace it whatsoever...
If the tire kept loosing balance or air or something, I think they should give it an honest effort to fix, or say "take it to our competitor, if they can fix it when we can't well refund it"
But still, something that would be best to find out about...

Mattadams,
Thank you for your concerns and tenacity in trying to resolve this issue.
The part is "custom" for looks. I know the description is vague but there is a reason. Part was ordered/installed by an ex assistant-manager who is climbing the "ladder" within the company. (He has since then moved to another DTC) I do not wish to compromise his career for a part that cost ~$80. Why? His role in ordering/installation of part could be considered "questionable" by corporate. He was uncertain whether part would be warranteed but still assured me that it would be.
I have kept all paperwork just in case..
Damage is cosmetic only. No structural damage was inflicted.
I hope this answers your questions.
Time for homework..
Have a nice day.

One more/last post to avoid confusion/raise eyebrows.
All parts originally ordered/installed well over a year ago. Damage occured just last month. DTC technician acknowledged it was his fault, referred to assistant manager. Assistant referred to manager.. Talks.. No agreement..
Thank you all for replies and suggestions.

Stephlan,
Are you talking about the one on the East side of 75 next to Home Depot? In that case, I've been telling everyone who would listen, NOT to go there.
The first time, I brought in a set of ROH wheels (tires should be mounted from the back of the wheel because of the polished outside lip). Naturally, they scratched 3 of the wheels mounting the tires from the front and the manager claims that they didn't do it.
6 months later, I took my 3/4 Ton Chevy truck in for the free rotate and balance. They gave the truck a "wall job" (park it next to a wall), then tells me it's ready to go. It was obvious they never touched it because the wheels were covered in brake dust and there isn't anyone there who can R&R a 33" tire/wheel from the truck without touching the wheel itself. Again, the manager played dumb. I finally wrote a long detailed letter to Discount Tires to complain but never heard back.

Add me to the list of being pleased with ours in College Station, TX. In high school, I spend quite a bit of money there buying ARE chrome rims and 33" BFG MTs for my Bronco. When I went back to get my first rotation, the guy slipped with the air ratchet and scratched my rims. I said something to him and he said that he didn't realize he did it, but he apologized and offered to keep the truck for an extra hour or two and try to buff out the scratch. When I came back, the manager came out to talk to me and said that they couldn't buff out the scratch, so they replaced my rim for free (and were very polite about the whole situation).
Now, I won't go anywhere else for tires. I've already bought one set of F1s and my MT Streets from them and will be going back for my next sets of both. These guys are the best and know me by name, now. They definately run an A++ operation down here.
