Question Brakes!!

I love the brakes in my L, the way they never fade...like my mustang used to. But they squeal every time i get on them in traffic. It is annoying and embarassing for the L to have noisy brakes. I am thinking about changing pads (only have 11,000 on the truck) but don't want to go with a pad that may fade or not work as good....anybody have any suggestions??

Brandon

Thumbs up

Go to napa and ask for cmx7576 front brake pads. These pads never squeel, never fade and offer beter stopping power. The best feature is they are practically dust free. They are around 90.00 and worth every penny.

Never fade??? You don't brake very hard. The brakes are one of the L's weaker points.

Brake squeal

Is it the front or the rears squealing? Reason I ask is mine squeal, and I used to think it was the front, until I paid really close attention. Turns out it is the rear brakes. The 2000 Lightnings have a problem with rear brake squeal which the SVT engineers are trying to design a fix for. About 6-8 months ago a bunch of them came down and looked at 4 of us that had the problem. Word is still out on whether the fix works. It hasn't worked for mine.

I experience brake fade, I get foot massages, but the brakes do their job so I'm happy.

I'm gonna install the napa pads also.

Torturing the brakes while street driving probably isn't working them hard.

Are you comparing that to what you and Stan put your brakes through

Are those Napa brake pads ceramic or carbon-metallic? I sure am tired of cleaning brake dust from these wheels! Thanks.

Exclamation

Using your brakes on the street is very similar to using them at the strip the FIRST apply is the criticial one and about any half way sized rotor to pad area[swept] will stop you fine.It is when you are doing HARD braking time after time in a matter of min. is when they show there weak points.Stan

I put the Napa pads on my L. The pads seem to invoke the ABS rather quickly making me think they are kind of grabby. Also, compared to stock I don't know if they stop that well. I have managed to fade the stock pads on several occasions. The L brakes are indeed "The weakest link" in the overall performace package. The rotors are too small for the 5000 pound mass that is our favorite truck. I hope SVT manages to put some 14 in. plus vented and drilled rotors on future versions of the L. I am sure many L owners would upgrade to the new brake package as well. HINT HINT SVT are you there?????????????
