Attn: All w/long tube headers

My truck hasn't run well at easy cruise or at idle for a long time. The other day I was talking to the shop foreman at a dealership about it and he asked me if I had l/t headers. He told me the L's, and all other new Fords, are really dependent on the o2 sensors for their closed loop engine analysis and if the ohms are off by just a hair it will really screw up what the computer is reading.

Well, I've had several splices into my set, headers, electric fan, etc., so, I asked around and low and behold Jim (JDM) has o2 extenders for this exact application. Well, I had them installed yesterday and all I can tell you is that this is a new truck again. It hasn't run this smooth and quiet for a long time.

I haven't seen this info anywhere else, so I thought I'd let it be known. (any further references to this subject, however, will be edited by the search police)

Does anyone have any pictures of their long tube install?

Who did you get to do them and how long did it take?

Thank you in advance!

Tim -

Were you running without the 02 sensors before. I extended the wiring on my stock sensors and everything seems to be fine.

BfB - I have pictures after they are installed. It took a really good exhaust guy three hours to remove the old system and bolt up the headers. He then did a great exhaust system for me with high flow cats, H-pipe and twin dynomax race magnums. Headers $875; Labor and Parts $600. I also added the BABolt tips which added another couple C notes.

600 bucks was the best money I've spent so far. The system sounds great, looks even better and I've got before and after dyno sheets that document the power increase. Still waiting on valid dyno runs for Bassani or JBA. So far everyone says their times at the track indicate no additional power, but, much improved sound.

What type of long tubes do you guys have? Sorry, I haven't really checked into what brands are offered. I assume only 1 or 2? SHM offers some, or was going to.

I got mine through Lightning Performance. Tim got his through CFH. Don't have the numbers handy so search around and you'll find them.

I believe his are the CFH also.

I've always had the sensors intact. I don't think the truck would run at all without them.

I have had several changes with my exhaust and maybe it was just poor workmanship with one or more of the mecs. that cause the bad connection.

It's just such a pleasure to have her running so smoothly again that I had to let any other miserable sot that might be having the same problem know what might help.
