Which bug shield for hood?

With apologies for asking such a low-tech question, should I just go with the Ford bug shield, or is there something better?

I don't really like them much, but I didn't put one on my '97 F-150, and after 50k miles, the front of it is beat up pretty good.

Thanks

IMO, I would just keep waxing the hood. The whole front end of the Lightning's take a beating from stones, so I wouldn't worry about the front of the hood. Lightnings look so much better without all of the accessories. Just my opinion.

If you really want a bug deflector, a standard 97+ F150 will work. GTS, Lund, and a few other makes some with nice curves.

I think it is lund who makes a low profile bug shield in carbon fiber look. If I was to get one, that would probably have to be it.

wow, I wasn't expecting such a negative response. Waxing can't help with rock chips. For whatever reason, the hood on my '97 model has a lot of chips, while the grill surround and bumper are in much better condition.

Well, you might try a search. I use the Bugflector II. Its painted from the back the same color as the truck and almost invisable. I got tired of the front of my fords all being destroyed by rocks and bugs. Been on 2 yrs works fine.

That's what I was kind of thinking of. My L is black, and with a black one, it wouldn't show much.

Lund makes a clear one. I have mine painted white on the back side to match the truck color. It does keep the hood chip free but can mess up the grille under the hood since it may touch. Not the best fit IMO.

I had installed a Lund Trident bug shield...but took it off since it made a whistling sound over 60mph. I had a clear bra installed.

At over $500 including install it's kinda expensive... but I haven't had to worry about any chips since then.

In the Summit trucks catalog I saw a polished stainless steel bugshield, kinda pricy, but different-just thought you'd like one more option.

mine has the bugflector II also. on a black truck it's not that noticeable. i also have the black window things, so i can let the heat out of this thing in the summer before it explodes.

I have the GTS that came clear and I had it painted on the back side so it will not chip. Its a perfect match and its kinda hard to pick out at first. It looks nice I wish I had a scanner to show ya.
