Is $3.95 a fair price for Sonoco 104 unleaded? I have to buy a 55 gallon drum.
What type of mixture do I do? I was thinking about 4.5 gal of 104 to 5 gal 93 to equal 100octane. Is that pretty close?
Will it hurt the engine to run high octane w/o a chip?

I just purchased 5 gallons of Sunoco GT 100 for tomorrow, and to my surprise it was still only 2.99 a gallon.
If anyone needs some, I could bring 5 gallons in my fuel Jug for tomorrow. Im running 5 gallons 100, and 6 93.

Thats way too much if you ask me. I know near the local track 100 octane sells for 4.50 a gallon.

Unless you have a detonation problem with your existing set-up, or plan on running with an enhanced chip, racing gas may slow you down. Let me explain.
Generally, racing gasoline is formulated to burn slower, to combat detonation. My son went racing at the street legal drags a while back, and put unleaded racing gas in his blown Chevelle. He did not bump up the timing, or increase the boost, and immediately slowed down.
If you have a detonation problem, racing gas will alleviate this, and you may run better, but you will definitely be safer. If not, you will need to increase the timing, and possibly lean down the mixture as well.
The tuners here should be able to set you in the right direction.

Well, I should have my JL racing Diablo chip next week(just in time for B.G. NMRA
) along with that 4# pulley and was under the impression I should run 100 octane. I just really had no idea how I should mix the 104 with 93 to get the best results. I also wanted to make sure that too much octane wasn't going to hurt the engine if I wasn't 100% accurate with my mixing.
I haven't had any pinging problems up to now and I only use Sams club 93 octane.

why dont yall use airplane gas, it's 100 octane and it should be around $2-$2.50 a gallon. the only problem is that its leaded, but that will just screw up your cats and i'm sure some of yall have removed them anyway....
JRM you know not of what you speak. There are four down line sensors in the L exhaust. Two before the cats and two after. The truck won't run right if you remove the cats. Second the leaded gas will fry the four sensors and then your truck will really run like *****.
104 is $5.25/gal here in Houston in 5 gal. lots. It's a little cheaper by the drum. I usually mix it 50-50 to get about 98 octane which is sufficient to run fine on all the chips I have. The biggest difference I have noticed with the 104 mix is the truck leaves harder and faster which helps with both your RT and your 60'.
I use it every week. It will not hurt your truck and you will never need to get your injectors cleaned.

I haven't been able to help anyone on this sight only learn from you guys but maybe this time I can do some good. My good friend is a Blender at Chevron refinery. He blends anything from reg. unleaded to jet fuel. He will be able to tell us exactly what you want to know about mixing fuels. I'll see him tonight and post a good thread on it tomorrow.
