fog light cracks
fog light cracks
While cleaning my truck this weekend I noticed several
cracks in both of my fog lights (2001).
It almost appears as if the heat build up may have caused them
as the edges of all the cracks are severly rounded, almost like
they cracked and were then heated up.
Anyone else noticed this on their truck?

What do these cracks look like? I looked closely to my fog lights and found some small tiny cracks, about 1/4", are these the cracks everyone is talking about. Anyone have pics?

Believe me,you don't have to look close. The cracks are fricken huge. Most people don't notice them though. They seem to be busy trying to get out of the way.(It's kinda scary to see that coming at you at WOT in your reaerview)
My dealer has already replaced TWO fog lamps because of cracking. It isn't an impact crack, but rather it appears heat related. Doesn't really matter cuz the dealer replaced them under warranty. But it is getting to be a PITA getting the truck ready to go to the dealer. hehe
Marc-- Do you by any chance work for Ford in Walton Hills, Ohio. I knew a Marc Carpenter when i worked there, before i retired.
Any way i have a 2001 that i bought from Downtown Ford in Canton, and so far no cracked fogs. Everything else ok so far.---Jim

Yo Marc:
I worked at W.H.S.P. until i retired at the end of Dec. 1997. I worked in scheduling most of my career there, with the last 2 years on 3rd shift working for B. Ganoe out on the floor. Any clues yet? I moved to Virginia about a year after i retired. I was on salary for 32 years, does Jim Woolf ring a bell?
I'm leaving for Ohio today so i'll get back with you next week.--Jim

Damn small world isn't it Jim??
Of course, if I don't see you while you are here, drop me a line
when you get back home.
Wouldn't be surprised if we don't end up down your way when
I call it quits at Ford in 5 more years.
Spend several weeks each summer in Hatteras N.C., and I have
a really good friend in Gastonia N.C.that I used to wrench for
on his Funny Car years ago. Who knows, maybe I can sign back
on with him again when I retire from here.....
