Post Busted Fog Lights on a 01???

Did the headlight switch mod today and my girlfriend was looking at te fog lights and said "how did you bust your fog lights?". I thought that Ford had fixed this on the 01's but I guess I was wrong. The lenses look like a bunch of little "bulls eye" dings out of the glass on both lenses. Is that the same thing that happened to the 99 and 00's?

No that is not how the '99's or '00's looked as they were glass lenses that cracked or shattered.

I was washing mine yesterday and noticed the same thing as you. The polycarbonate lense has essentially melted. Pi$$es me off. You'd think after three tries, they could come up with a lense that works.

On the bright side, there is no way they can deny this as a warranty claim. The glass fogs were always disputable as a rock hit. And also, when my '00 fogs cracked, the glass fell out. That looked really neat!

I noticed a crack in my foglight this weekend. Its about 1 cm long and it is a crack not a pit. Well at least I got 1500 miles on this truck before something broke!

Have you converted the fog lights to DDL's? Maybe having those lights on continuosly cracks the lens.

I don't recall reading anywhere any sort of caution about continuous use. They can be turned on all the time with the normal light switch if you wish.

Just another poor design in my opinion.

Hey its a Beauty Mark.. lol.. that sucks. I heard on the 99/00 if you put that clear rock guard it helps have it on my buddies with 23000 miles and still good fog lights. He has had his windshield replaced 2 times.

Well, that certainly torpedoes my idea of installing the '01s in place of my cracked '00s. Hasn't anyone found a good aftermarket set-up for the '00s? Sure don't intend to replace the oems, they will surely crack the first time I drive them in the rain.

Hahahahah, HEY FORD, after three sets of fog lights that are worthless (93-95, 99-00, 01) why don't you fire the clown in charge. Surely by now anyone with an IQ over 100 should have figured out how to build a fog lamp that would last.
noelvm

I repeat, currently there are only two cures.
1. Put covers over lamps and never, never, never turn them on.
2. Remove them and use holes to duct air to your intake.

Question

Has anybody tried to get the dealership to fix the fogs on their 01 under warranty. I'm about to bring mine in, and I'll bet they try to blame it on me.

You guys realize you are bitching about a 40 dollar fog light assembly right? I mean, the entire assembly is 40 bucks. Surely you can get the lens much cheaper then that. I use my fogs occasionally and I have 11k miles on mine with no problems. Besides it should be a simple warranty issue. Maybe after they have warrantied 8000 fog lamp assemblies they'll get the clue!

Cover them with vinyl. It's available from Susquehanna Motorsports (rally lights). I had the same problems with my 00. After replacing both of them, I used the aircraft clear vinyl that they sell for this purpose. I put two layers on each light, and have had no further problems. Its about $5 for this vinyl.

For the 99 00 folks, if these are the same as the Mustang go to this link and click on lights and look at the lens only line. Not a bad price! I only lost 1 and got it warrantied.
