Question Intercooler Electric Fans

Hello Everyone,

I'm interested in adding some or a electric fan(s) to my intercooler, has anybody already done this? What type fans to use?

Any ideas, I would be appreciate the help, tips, etc..

Thanks,
DL

Sixpipes and others have done this. Search for sixpipes or checkout his Web page http://svtlightnings.org/go_rila/

Hey DL
I think what you mean is the exchanger as the intercooler is under the blower..LOL might be tough to put a fan there..actually I believe you can use a 10 inch fan I'm getting ready to do the Mod so I'll update when done but for now a search using "electric fans" will help

Thanks Silver_2000_!,

I'll check it out...

Hey TZrider:

Silly me, It was late when I posted...That's correct, I meant the heat exchanger(Radiator) for the intercooler..

I'm putting a electric fan and Cobra R water pump on my truck this coming weekend and while I was looking under my truck, I figured maybe I'll put some fans on the intercooler exhanger......

I think the exchanger is about maybe 6-8 inches tall by about 24 inches long...Another 01 L owner I know has two 6-8 inch fans on his intercooler and the fans are wired up to cut on with the intercooler pump. They start on the passenger side of the truck and cover about half the heat exchanger....I think he has enough room to add two more fans to cover up the rest of the exchanger?
But I'm not sure I want 4 fans installed on my intercooler exchanger...

I need to get under my truck and do a little more research..

Thanks,
DL

I did this back in 99 using 2 SPAL 6.5 inch fans on the IC heat exchanger. And must tell you guys, it did nothing for me. In the pits with 2 fans, it would take 15 minutes (with fluid circulating) before ANY TEMP drop was noticed. And then of course you would have to worry about the battery draining due to tall the amps they pull, and with an Electric radiatior fan, its only worse on the battery.

The only way I SEE the fans working would be with a custom shroud. Otherewise, its really just a waste of money IMO

Not a smart idea. At crusing speeds, you will actually run hotter IC temps. Think about it...if you add fans across the whole thing, how will the air flow through it at highway speed? IMO

Well that just means you need to get more power

RTKILLA,
I like that battery box, I'm sure that helps with the weight transfer, and is enough for your killa stereo.

Truck launchs so much better then before i did this mod. I'm think about adding another one in a new box, but I think it might be to much wieght. maybe if I was to get the fiberglass leafs! 82lbs should cover another battery!

Maybe then I'll do a aluminum box instead. And put a custom fuel cell in, stop stop stop stop. I got to say that to my self noe, me credit advisors had a consoling sesion with me to try and stop my wasteful spending on my big red beast. Hey, she's worth 60K to me! HEHEHEHE

When does it end bill, NEVER HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Thanks Spiro99SVT,

Makes sense...Now I have more money to spend on other mods...
I saw somehwere on here or NLOC, it was a new post about using low temperature antifreeze in the intercooler radiator only, would it help? I don't remember the name, antifreeze that keeps the temp down in your radiator? What do you think?

Hey RTKILLA:

The battery relocation looks cool, I may have to do this when I do my upgraded stereo install in the future. I planned on doing the stereo install when I first got my truck, but I spend way to much money on mod's to go fast ....I figured the Stereo could wait..

I know how you feel about:
"Hey, she's worth 60K to me! HEHEHEHE"

I agree, at least that much...

I simply use Red-Line Water Wetter. For under 10 bucks a bottle, t's a wise investment. I bought 1 bottle, put a third in the IC, and the rest in the radiator.

After you get the batteries in the back then you can add one of these slick little coolers. 6 gallons of ICE water last along time and does the job awesome!
