Oil Change & Knock Problems? Got an idea.

A lot have been getting a knock on there first oil change and some notice it goes away but still knocks. I know that Sal said this is a piston problem but i was wondering if there was a way to help prevent the oil starvation at startup when we change our oil.

I know that most cars and trucks have a fuel shut off switch in the event of an accident that shuts the fuel off. Some have had problems with off-roading and jarred this and could not restart their motors.

Would there be any way we could shut off the fuel and turn the starter over to get oil up in the motor then reset switch and start up normal?

I havent had that problem yet, but I will usually fill the oil filter up with oil before installing it,it just helps the oil get up into the engine a little quicker.

Shows you're thinkin'(the fuel shut-off idea), but I don't think the battery could spin the eng. fast enough to get the oil pressure up high enough. Consider; low rpms, low oil pressure and the upper end bearings, bushings, and cam follower surfaces would suffer---I think...(I know just enough to 'talk' a good game but get me in trouble). Hope the eng. techs/engineers chime in.

A easier way to do what your thinking is to open the hood and pull the fuse for the fuel pump. I also Make sure I fill the filter when I change the oil.

Thanks Don C

Check the fuse layout on the underhood panel and fuel pump is # 10. I was thinking if turning off fuel and turning over motor would cause an injector problem with no fuel going through them. Noticed that there is fuse # 18 (Power Control Module, Fuel Injectors, Fuel Pump Relay, Mass Air Flow Sensor). But the Power control Module is also listed on fuse # 2 also.

Those Who Race with flip switchs and Resets computer, most disconnet the battery. Wondering if pulling these fuses would help reset computer insted of pulling battery cable?

Also I remember a lot of Hot Rodders over the years who like to rev up the motor before shutting them down. Always thought they where just wanting to make some noise. But taking time to think about it, when a motor has been idleing for a short period most of the oil is sweep clean of the cylinder walls. Maybe reving up motor would help sling some oil off of the crank and put some oil up in cylinders for the next restart.

Going to pull some oil, still have factory oil in it. I forgot our company checks oil in the machinery and maybe I could get it check though them. Be intersting to see if there may be some aditives in it and if any of the teflon is coming off too. Made some online inquirys too, told them what kind of analysis I was looking for, Probley won't hear from them till Monday.

You could always invest in an oil primer. I know summit sells them and they prime the engine with oil before the initial start. I had on on my old drag vette and it worked great.
