The new monster
The new monster
I just finished a transmission for someone that I'm almost to proud of to sell. Every thrust washer replaced by a bearing, every bushing out for a bearing, 7 plate coast clutch, 5 plate Direct, 6 gear planets in the forward and low/reverse. Ball bearing pump bearings. I may have to keep it for myself.....
Just wanted to brag, I'll try to get a few pictures posted (I took photos all the way up while I built it).

This would be one on my next mods I would love to get done.
What do yo think the cost would be and how much power woud this bad boy handle now.
I need to start modding my tranny now

I'm assuming its all good, but...
I have absolutely no idea what any of that stuff Factory_Tech was talking about would actually do for me that my "stock" L trans doesn't do now. It barks second gear every time, has over 37,000 (hard) miles on it, and I've yet to have a problem.
Someone clue me in (seriously)?
Thanks, later...

But I know what bearings are and how much easier they spin over bushings. So thats gotta be a plus in the tranny. Easier moving parts should mean less lost power to the rear wheels.
Captain & gforce: (sitting in a tree, K-I-S...sorry, jk) I guess I must just have been so flustered by all those numbers and gear talk that was being thrown around that I overlooked that part of the whole deal (probably the simplest of all).
Factory_Tech: If you wouldn't mind dumbing down what you said a little bit more, is the swapping of bearings for bushings etc the main difference between your work of art and a production L tranny...or did you do some other nasty stuff like make it a 5 speed auto etc? Thanks for the info...

Yea, but if you put all that behind a regular L engine, the tranny would probably run forever.
and smooooothe. oooohhhh baby, babyyyyyy.

If in rebuilding a L tranny, you just replaced all the busings with berings you would have a really great tranny. I would pay just for a list by part number of each bushing and the replacement bering that was used.
