Lightning engine in a 69 fast back

I am purchasing a 69 Mustang fastback and would like to put a lightning engine in it. By comparing the compartments, it would definatly be a tight fit but the engine in the Lightning looks to be too tall. Any feed back on wether or not this would fit? I know someone around here has probably tried to do this with the family car or something .

To be honest with you, I don't know much about Mustangs, But here are some awesome pictures that get my blood boiling and might inspire you. 'It' belongs to SSRDOHC (over on the SVTperformance.com site) I don't know if he posts here or not. Here is the original thread, and the three pictures of the beast.

That's gonna need either a huge cowl hood or a cutout. I wonder if they can somehow drop the motor more or something. That's a cool idea, but looks horrible sticking out.

I have a '70 Mach 1 I've been working on (slowly), installing a '97 Lincoln DOHC mod motor and Cobra T56 5-speed. The requirements for installation are extensive, even without the blower height issue due to your Lightning motor. In order for the engine to fit width-wise, you must remove the spring (shock) towers, which necessitates the installation of a completely different front suspension. Rod & Custom Motorsports offers a kit for installing a Mustang II-style front end, and it has been used for the installation of mod motors into Gen 1 Mustangs. You might check with Fat Man Fabrications, since they build lots of MII front end kits, too. They don't currently offer a Gen 1 Mustang kit, but may be persuaded.

You'll need to fabricate motor and trans mounts, of course, and headers will likely have to be custom built.

Check the latest Mustang Illustrated magazine: there's an install in a 64-66 conv. of the Lightning motor, and it looks like the blower extends 6" or more above the hood. Not too pretty...

NO way, you should drop in the lightning motor! =) yes the cobra jet is a awsome motor but be a little different and your gonna need a cowl hood for sure

I vote for the L engine also.... you'll be noticed more with this combo.

Plus... as if it's an issue, but fuel economy will be better.
