I haven't done it, YET!!!!

I want to port and polish 32V Navigator heads and upgrade the cams, but I am gonna see how far I can go with just bolt-ons.

2_FAST4U,
You know the ports on the 4V Navigator heads are a different design. The lower intake from the L won't work. The hose locations and t-stat are in in a different place. The heads WILL bolt to our blocks. Need different timing chains and front cover.

You will need single twin spray 41lbs injectors. You will need to make a new lower intake know matter what! You will need to cut and weld the fuel rail, make sure the supercharger is at the correct height and in line with the lower crank pulley. Time for all the calculations and measurements. Somone with mechanical engineering to help if your not in that field. Not to mention, to get the injector angle right you need to make sure of two things!

1.) Correct angle for atomization of air/fuel.

2.) They will also have to be at the right angle to cool the valves. If they are not right you can burn them up.

You can get creative and use two independent injectors but then you need to change calibration peramiters.

This is not a little task. And yes I have the information on doing it. I need the $850.00 + for the 8 prototype twin spray injectors. The $1000-2000 for a fabricated lower intake, and still incorporate the factory intercooler.

Then the easy stuff. Heads, gaskets, front cover, valve covers. By the way don't use the Cobra R heads. No low end torque. Navigator cams and heads are a must. Then you need a tuner that can change more than just A/F,spark and shift points. He will have to spend hours on a dyno dialing it in.

Were better off waitng for a better aftermarket head & cam combination for our trucks. Oh and Cad illustrations need to be made for the lower casting for the company to form it!! You can make up a crude one with no intercooler for less cash! Less efficient.

It can be done if you got a fat wallet! Incase you are wondering if I'm doing this. Not telling

Thor.

Thor01,

Sounds to me like you know what your talking about. The one thing I don't have right now is a fat wallet!!

It also sounds like you are attempting it or have already done it.

I will probably wait until a new head and cam combo comes out, but I really want that 4V design. It boggles my mind why Ford didn't use that design on our Ls and why in the HELL they decided to put those sweet heads on those piece of ***** Navigators!!

Do you now what kind of HP will be gained with a 32V head?

2_FAST4U,
Yes, I do know how much a 32 valve eaton supercharged 5.4L produces. It is sooo much im doing all I can to figure out the money part. It would make most L owners cry! Cost and warrenty is the reason why they didn't. This truck is off the shelf parts. Cheap to make! The trany would need to be significantly upgraded to hold up tho the added torque and hp it makes with 4v heads.

I have gatherd the information and have the contacts of the companies to make it work. I too don't have a fat wallet. We shal see. I'm not married and no kids. Need to get the house done first. Then start the wheels on a project like this. I didn't mean to burst your bubble. There is much more to it, than meets the eye!

Oh, I know what you mean, but I still want to do it!!!

Are we talking over 600HP at the flywheel? The reason I ask is because I think the 4R100 can handle up to 600.

Don't we have the same 2V heads as the GT? If so, why not just CNC port/hand port them and install some aftermarket valves. With some work, they could probably flow about ~275 CFM intake. I'd be interested in cams if they could raise my powerband/shift points like 500 RPM. We need to try some 6000+ rpm shift points

rscoleman,
Sounds like you have "The Need For Speed."

The cams are not the same as the 4.6 Mustang. The 4.6L, 5.4L truck engines are built with the same cams. Low torque with a little mid range. No high end. That's what hurts us going throught the traps. Your not getting into aerodynamics too much at 110mph. The Mustangs, crapmaros & Fire chickens all have top end. So, the cams would be good with a new valve angle and size. Our current heads weren't designed at the begining with a Supercharger in mind. SVT got lucky! Someone has to be making a head and cam. I'm going out to Las Vegas for the SEMA show. I will be asking that question.

I've always believed this too. Sal says so, but when they say "same" do they mean in every detail? If this is the case then why not install aftermarket SVO 2V heads?

Are the L heads aluminum or cast iron? Also, does anyone know our stock cam specs? I'd be willing to give up some low end torque for some mid/topend horsepower. It seems the stock head/cam combo may be the next bottleneck to overcome in these engines. Then we can open up a whole new debate on intercooler efficiency...

They are aluminum. A few folks have tried having their heads done up to gain nothing (MM&FF, but who trusts them?).

Actually Thor, the are the same. Look up the parts numbers. The drivers side head assy (head, cam, valve train) has the same part number as the 4.6 GT. The pass side assy is different part number, why I'm not sure. But the cam part numbers alone, are the same for the 4.6 GT and V-8 Tritons.

Sal, have you any experience or any info. on swapping out our stock L/GT heads for the SVO 2V heads?

Maybe they wouldn't be optimal being that our motors aren't turning quite as high as a GT's, and the SVO heads were designed to flow better at the higher rpms?

Please let us know your input on these.

Thank you!
