I know a good amount of owners got one on a GP a long ways back; I just would like to know if the shafts held up to date.

BADBOLT

Someone who bought on the GP posted a pic awhile back of theirs. It broke in half. Not good.

I think I remember Spiro snapping his...but I'm not sure if there is a material known to man that could harness Spiro's Beast.

Alphadoggy has had a mishap with everything. I'm surprised he's kept his sanity.

spiro broke a aluminum drive shaft.. not a 2001 lightning drive shaft. i believe it was something JDM whipped up.

clonetek,

The driveshafts JDM sells are Ford Racing 5" aluminum driveshafts. The same exact ones they put on the 2001 Lightnings. I compared my serial # with Jim's stock shaft and they were almost the same except for a few #s.

My father and I tried a carbon fiber on our old drag car and it broke before we hit the 60' mark.

i know that JDM sells the aluminum driveshaft... the one spiro got from jdm wasn't a 5" lightning driveshaft..
we had a big discussion about that a while back..
i'm not sure what kind of vehicle it was off of.. spiro would know.
i'm not wanting to start anything, just wanted to set the facts straight. knowhatimean?

One of the guys here who races installed an 01 drive shaft and had to remove it because it rubbed and put deep gashes in the hosing at the u joint bering area at the rear end.. If he hadn't of removed it it probably would have broken shortly. We believe the angle at launch was causing the rub. Perhaps cal tracs could have helped. he went back to his old steel drive shaft which I understand in no longer available from Ford.

A friend of mine uses a carbon fiber driveshaft in his A/A 7 second, blown 'vette. No problems yet.

W/ my new combo, I'll be in the mid 7's...but Ill keep my chrommolly shaft.

By the way, my engine builder (Reher-Morrison) uses a carbon fiber shaft in their 6 sec. p/s car.

Clonetek, you're thinking of Johnny. He broke an aluminum driveshaft he got from JDM, that was NOT an 01 shaft, but one that Jim had in his truck. Spiro's shaft WAS an 01 shaft.

01 SHAFT

Clonetek,
The shaft that I snapped at the WFC4 was in fact an Aluminum 01' shaft. I purchased the shaft from JDM late last year, and had results up until then. The shafts that JDM sells is ALSO the 01' shafts measuring 4.5 inches, not 5".

IMO, I would stick with the stock shaft. No need to waste money on Carbon fiber and Aluminum shafts. The factory STEEL shaft holds up alot better. And of course AXLE WIND UP was the cause of the breakage at the WFC.
