Everyones Opinion on Nitrous
Alright guys I'm just dead confused on what to do with my truck past the, Exhaust, Ram Air Kit, Lower Pulley, and Chip. So I've decided to go for the Horsepower in a bottle! I'm excited about getting it but I want everyones opinion and stories (good or bad) about nitrous. Basically I wanna know if i'm gonna blow the thing running 125 squeeze into the already potent 380 bhp. And also who would be the best installer for the systems? ( I've heard SoCal Speedshop is good ).
Thanks alot
Sam

In addition to the n20 kit itself, you'll need:
Window switch
Colder plugs
Nitrous program
Fuel pressure safety switch
Bottle heater
And Purge (at the very least, it looks neat
)
I've heard of people spraying 200 shots...but have yet to see it (hey, this IS the internet 'ya know)

I'll give you my opinions on it, and you can use the info as you like
. When these trucks first came out, I thought it was pretty scary seeing people strap nitrous systems onto them. In the world of performance, it's usually frowned upon to add large shots of nitrous onto blown or turbocharged vehicles. That kind of set up usually requires serious internal parts, and a REALLY good engine tune.
After watching everyone try different hp levels and different systems, it seemed to look like the trucks responded surprisingly well to it. Sure, a few Rambos did the 150 shot and puked thier bottom ends all over the track, but most weren't running that much.
So naturally customers of mine wanted some juice, so I did what the asked and tuned their trucks. We have had exstensive nitrous experiance already, doing quite a bit of nitrous work on the Gen 1 trucks. As time went on, I saw which kits worked best, and why.
Fast forward to today. My personal opinion is that you want to run a wet system (injects fuel and nitrous) and not a dry system (injects nitrous and forces extra fuel through injectors). There are people that swear by dry systems, but I do not. I know many people who have burned up thier Gen 2 motors on dry, and nobody that has on wet. On the dyno, a wet system with less hp rating will make as much power as a dry system with more hp rating.
Because of this, we recently decided to become a Nitrous Express dealer, since all thier kits use wet system techology. I used to run
NOS brand stuff religously, but the NX stuff just blows it away. We also manufactuer billet nozzle plates to mount the nitrous nozzle, and we have extensive dyno and track testing on nitrous trucks, so our nitrous chip programs are by far the best.
We can't install the system for you for obvious distance reasons, but I would be more than happy to supply you with the parts and tech help.

Well, you'll need lots of money for a new engine and lots of money for tranny rebuilds. If you got that no problem. I have the 100K Ford warranty and while I have a mod friendly dealership they told me right at the start when I went in to show them my latest trophys from racing the previous weekend, that they would honor my warranty as long as I did NOT ADD NITROS. The choice is yours. Looking at the guys running it around here my estimate is that it decreases your transmission life by 65-75% and engine life by 50% when compared to a raced non-nitros truck.

noelvm,
I TOTALLY agree with you on that point. I use to use NOS systems on my old vette and I will tell you that engine temp definitly goes up and I was worried about that for a while.
A piece of advice: NOS is a good source of instant HP, but you will pay in the long run!!!

2001slvrbullet- As long as you stay with a small shot and use it in moderation you will be fine. I personally run a NOS dry shot since I will never go above a 75hp shot (Anymore nitrous than this would be plain scary on the street!!). If you feel that you are going to run more than a 75hp shot then I would for sure go with a NX wet shot! I have yet to have any problems but then again I am not at the track every weekend launching at 1300rpms on the bottle either. I mainly use mine on the street for the occassional street race. I activate the nitrous in 2nd gear so that it makes it a lot eaiser on the drive train and transmission. Trust me when I saw it's a whole different animal on the bottle. This thing pulls like crazy with a 75hp shot. I couldn't imagine a 150hp shot!
Noelvm- I know that nitrous will shorten the life of our L's but then again doesn't anything that increases horsepower?

we have many trucks running mid to low 12's without the no2. so unless your wanting to run low 12's to low 11's i personaly wouldn't recomend using no2..That's just my opinion. and i guess my sig. says the rest.

I was and am still considering a nice little 50hp shot of nitrous.
The way I see it the more nitrous you use the more it does decrease engine and tranny life. But remember your not using nitrous the whole time the engine is running. Just every now and then. That and 50hp or even a 75 hp shot doesn't seem that much to do much damage.

HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO?
you can do mid 12's without it, but if you want to go faster then N20 is the only way right now.
I'm using the Nitrous Express kit and I like it. I don't use it that much and my truck sits in the garage most of the time now. For as much as I use the nitrous and as much as I driv emy truck, I'll never hit 100,000 k for warrenty crap. I plan on rebuild this bad A$$ to handle a whole hell of allot more power next year anyway.
