Question Cobra Water Pump!

I see that a few people are putting the cobra water pump on our trucks and i was wondering how they like it and does it free up any horsepower?

Matt I sell the 4V water pumps. They are aluminum and have a different impeller design, that does free up a few horses, plus flows better at high rpms. I have one on my 01 and am pleased with it. Only drawback is you have to run an electric fan since there is no provision to screw the stock fan to. If you want one, just shoot me an e-mail.

Matt,

I LOVE my Cobra R water pump. I changed when I put on the electic fan and the truck is a lot quieter now without the manual fan there and the truck seems a lot more stronger now without that stock water pump.

The stock pump weighs about 4-5 pounds were the Cobra R pump weighs a pound and a half.

You can feel the difference

Question Warranty issues?

Does anyone using this fan worry at all about warranty issues?
We are planning on getting an '02 when they come in, and I was thinking of doing the electric/Cobra "R" swap.
My two concerns are warranty, and most importantly, how well does this setup cool, as opposed to the stock setup?

I have been going through overheating hell with my Cobra, living in Arizona, and wondered if this would create a problem swapping in an electric fan?

Thx, for any input!

This is a dumb question, but is the cobra R water pump electric or belt driven? An electric pump to turn on in the pits would be nice!

rscoleman,

The water pump is belt driven and the fan is electric. On my fan it is setup with a toggle switch so I can cool it down a lot faster in the pits.

Drkone,

The word on the streets is that ford is upgrading all the manual fans to electric, so if they even make an '02 L, it will probably have an electric fan.

I also highly doubt that a water pump is going to void your warranty, you have to realize, They are not going to look for ever non-stock item on your truck!!

Having just visited the Oakville assembly plant last Friday, and watching the assembly of the 2002 F150's (first day of production) I can most confidently say that these trucks are built with your good old, everyday, run of the mill belt driven fan. Judging by the stack of fans and clutches sitting around, there will not be electric fans anytime soon.

Guess it can always change, but that is what I saw.

2fast,

yeah, I agree, it just always worries me, about voiding this and that, that you hear about.

I would think something like a W.P. would not be an issue anyway. Pretty straight forward install.

Thanks for the tip tho' !

Sorry, I messed up, I can't do it. I got "reminded" that a FEMP (Ford Employee) discount is for personal use only, and since my cost for a FEMP part is prolly cheaper than the dealer's, my favorite "uncle" frowns on me offering them at that price. My bad.

Sorry for the confusion.
