stupid spark plug question

I have a 00 lightning with 40k miles. I've only put 300 miles on it since I have owned it. How often are the spark plugs due and if there not due by miles or years should i be worried about checking the torque of the spark plugs?? Im used to Japanese cars where the spark plugs are due at 60k or 120k. Thank for your help/

If the engine is stock (w/stock plugs) I'd leave 'em til about 60K. The stock plugs are torqued in there pretty well; it's when you remove them and reinstall or install new ones that you have to worry about them loosening. Of course, they can always loosen up even if they're the originals.

Thank you Jaymz. let me ask you this. It does a lot of sitting at this point in its life. due to the fact that i'm redoing a lot of redneck stuff that was done to it and trying to make it look nice. should i be worried and check them or should i not lose any sleep over it?? Im not use to ford and never did much work on them since most of my friends and family are Ch*ey guys. just trying to save myself some time since most of my work is not engine related. thanks again.

If anything, I'd retorque the plugs to 28 ft/lb to keep them from blowing themselves out.

You'll get all kinds of opinions on this issue. Lightnings are notorious for blowing plugs. If you hear a puffing or chugging noise, STOP immediately and retorque the plugs.

What sort of detailing stuff are you using?

Best thing I can do is refer you to www.blownoutsparkplug.com.

Read FAQ's #51 and #52.

Thanks glc. The site is nice but my plugs are not blown out. I was just asking and still
wondering where did you get your torque specs for the spark plug??

You asked about torquing the plugs. His point for referring you to that site was they have done considerable research and recommend 28 ft lbs for the plugs. You should immediately torque yours to 28 as an effort to keep them from blowing
