Credit card-bill in dispute

On the way to the dealer to have my bearing/slipping belt noise fixed I thought if they give me any crapola about it having had a chip in it, I was going to tell them to fix it anyway and I'd pay.
I'd get a dealer fix and put it on my Visa. Then put that bill in dispute. That way I'd have a truck that had been repaired while the legal issue was being argued.

I've done that before and the dealer/merchant always gave in.

Have any of you used that tactic?

That is the ONE good thing about using plastic.

BTY, I called for an update on the repair job and they said it was a streched belt. No mention of a chip.

Sounds like a very good idea.

To reduce the hassle factor I removed the chip Friday and put about 400 miles on it over the weekend. Everything should have checked out OK if they looked for anything. But just in case there was a problem, I had a "plan".

Just saw your post on the "slipping belt". Why/what made it slip with just a 'few' miles on it?--with no mods, you haven't 'over-powered' it?

Another 'good' thing about 'plastic' is the 30-32 day 'float' on your charges.

Later, Dan

Lrod,
The service mgr said the belt could have been streched at the factory since I've heard that noise since I brought it home. Just a fluke thing, I guess.
They're replacing belt, pully's and who knows what else.
Can't wait to get it back in a little while.
If I don't take the Harley to the mountains this weekend, I'll probably come back down to your neck of the woods for another try at the track.
I'll keep in touch.

Lowner, What type of noise was it? A bearing noise, especially in drive with your foot on the brake? Or a squealing belt noise? Thanks.

SVTDave,
It sounded like a slipping belt to me. At a cold startup it was loud.
Less so after the enging warmed up.

Then one guy thought it was a bad bearing. Possible, I thought.

The dealer has said it was a loose belt that was causing it to slip.

They are replacing belt, pullys, etc.

Is yours making a similar noise?
