I've had the speedo buried in our 99 test truck, even stock it would pass the 140 mark, although in stock trim, it took a while to do it. With our 01 test truck, I've hit 162. Even though the speedo stops at 140, the NGS (Ford scan tool) will still register vehicle speed
.
Kind of funny to mention this subject, just the other day I was racing some kid in a new Turbo Eclipse. We hit about 150, then I let off the gas to slow down for an upcoming light and when I did that, I heard/saw a long rubber thing fly off the truck and go out the back. I thought I blew off my blower belt on decel, as that's what the object looked like in my mirror. At the light, the kid was amazed how fast the truck was, and I told him I thought I blew off the blower belt. He said he saw it ( he was behind me of course
). But when the light went green, the truck had full power. When I got to where I was going, I looked over the whole truck, until I finally saw what had come off, the upper windshield rubber. Really cheap, it just glues in over the widshield. Most windshield trim goes UNDER the glass. Seems to be pretty common. As a matter of fact, I had a customer come up for some parts installed from Florida with his 2001, and when he pulled up, his was 3/4 off the truck

I don't see how a stock 99-00 can do much more that 142 without driving over a cliff. BTW I tear the upper windsheild gasket every time (+135) as it beats the top of the cab.
BTW the 158 I beleave was done in Houston with a 150lb shot of NOS, so it takes 150 more HP to go 16mph faster, not a normal feat for a stock L.

The poop is thick tonight!
The black had a 150 shot of NOS, please this is so stupid.
You guys wouldn't last 30 seconds back in 99 when then the real boys did the initial testing.
This is just too much rice crud, goodby forever.
BR//137 of 5000 from 99.

My 00 also will run right up to around 140 but that is it! the truck is totally stock, I don't know how to make it go faster, all i do is drop the tail gate pull the mirrors in and took off the windsheild wipers,,, i even had a pretty good tail wind one time and its almost like it is programmed to stop at that speed,,, But man what a RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free Mod:
If you want a more accurate speedometer use the digital one.
Insert the key but don't turn it yet, hold in the reset button for the trip meter, then while still holding the reset button in, turn the key to the run position, wait until you see "test" light up where the odometer is, let go of the reset button, and start the truck. You can advance through the various functions one at a time by each press of the reset button. When you see ENG000.0 you are on the digital speedometer. You can also wait until you have the function you want selected and then start the truck.
Mine shows that the analog speedometer in the Lightning is a little optimistic. 70 mph on the analog speedometer is actually 68.7 on the digital. I use this all the time on highway trips. I set my cruise at a "digital" 70 mph, which looks like about 71.5 mph on the analog speedometer.
Also, the very next position is a digital tach, and you can continue to press and cycle all the way through and back around again to any function. Many of the functions are useless, but the digital speedo and tach are cool.
When you turn off the truck, it resets back to odometer.

Where'd you get that picture from? Did you guys do it (non-Lightning I'm assuming)? I've always wanted to try something like that, but they only put them on backroads around here. That's just plain badass...
Oh, and early this morning on (~4am), I had 2 mile stretch of 3 lane wide highway all to myself (except for 1 mack truck a ways up), and passed by him in the right lane at 135 according to the speedo. Thats the fastest I've had it up to, and although the pedal was to the floor, the motor still felt like it had quite a bit left (it would just take longer to get there).
At those speeds, you are taking up space sooooo fast. The "pucker factor" for sure. later...
