2nd --> 3rd shift oddness
2nd --> 3rd shift oddness
ok so ive had my L for almost a full day
when i give it some gas in 2nd and it revs up, right before it shifts to 3rd i feel an odd loss of power for a half second or so.. its almost like the feeling of the shift itself, just quicker... could the blower belt be slipping?
i'll have to do a bit more testing, but was curious if anyone has already experienced this..
thanks!

It sounds like your torque converter locking up. It is a weird fealing, but it is normal.
Madhouse might be right too, it could be the coputer shutting down 4 cyl during the shift. It may be a combination of the two, but both are normal.
I have a JDM chip and it shifts awsome.

An odd loss of power? Don't you guys think he's just feeling the cylinders shut off for the shift?
djc cobra - There's logic in the computer to shut four cylinders off at shift points to make a nice, smooth shift for those Lightning owners that use the truck for leisurely Sunday drives. A chip can remove that for you and make the shifts crisp...

While the converter lock and the shift shutdown could explain both, another thing that cvould be happening is the 321 valve in the accumulator may be sticky. If it is in the tranny you'll get a really hard 2-3 shift.
Hope it helps,

Hey guys... I've been dealing with this for a while and I have Diablo chip installed too.
Don't think the chip helps. I had this problem brfore the chip and after installation.
I'd like to find a solution but I got a feeling that we're stuck with it.

I also noticed this problem,but only when the air conditioning was cranked up all the way on max ac. Mine does it under light acceleration. It feels like it shifts twice going into 2nd.

If you watch the tach on up shifts, the reading will go from say 4000 in 2ed to 2500 when it hits third and the instently drop another 300 or so rpm as the torque converter locks up. It sometimes feels like two shifts. This is all normal. The tuners can play with the timing of all this stuff.

My 01 did this same thing on the 1-2 shift upon hard acceleration. I didnt know what the heck was going on. After the JDM chip install it stopped doing it! It also teed me off because it wouldnt kick down to 1st gear when you stomped it at a 30-40 mph roll. The chip took care of that as well!
