Question Starting the L

Hello folks! I'm fairly new to the board but I have read many of your messages, before I made a decision to buy a lightning. I just picked it up an Silver 01L about 2 weeks ago and I am absolutely addicted to power this truck has! My question to the board is... The truck takes about 3-4 cranks of the engine to start. It always starts, but it just seems a bit odd. To me it seems like most of the modern engines in todays vehicles start right up after 1-2 cranks. I was wondering if this normal for these trucks? If not any theories on what might be the problem?

Normal. 3 or 4 cranks is good, sends a little oil to the top before starting. All vehicles should but they don't crank a little before firing, helps to prime the oiling system.

I noticed it takes a bit longer too.......but then again I was used to driving a Honda prelude which started as soon as you turned the key.....sometimes I accidentally let off the ignition too soon and it kind of "half@ss starts"

I kind of like it though.....it sounds cool - especially when the pass. door is open and I can hear the exhaust echoing off the door - huge roar

Cool

My chipped/splitfired 99 starts within 1 second of the key turn (always)

Cool

Thanks guys! Glad to know my truck is "normal". I guess I'm just being a bit paranoid with my baby!
BBQMAN .. That's interesting that your truck fires right up. Do you think that has more to do with the chip than the split fires?

Yea, the same thing happens to my L. I think its the s/c having to be turned or somethin, cuz my buddy with an expedition holds his key for like 1 second and it starts right away. But, its normal i guess.

I also have this problem, but it’s very rare.

Normally just one or two cranks will do it, if it takes any more it usually happens if I really get on it and immediately turn it off, also only in the summer (~100 degrees).

Ive noticed if I rev the engine up and then just cut it off it gives me problems like that, otherwise under normal operation no problems Try that out.
