Question

has anyone seen something in writing, concerning their willingness to fix 99-00's intercoolers that are out of warrenty? i'm over 30K on my 99 with no leak yet, and am weighing my options. i know dealers hate warrenty work, so i'm looking at a grand for extended coverage.

MRBBQMAN, Tough decision. I think the intercooler fix is about $800.00. If it were me I would wait.

If I were you, BBQ, I would just dump half a can of BG cooling system sealant into my i/c reservoir and not worry about it again. I don't think my new i/c is going to leak, but I am going to do the same thing prophylactically. Even a little bit of that green goo will really fudge things up. I think that once you notice it going down its probably too late.

Alpha, I know the green goo will stop the leak...but what does it do to the tubes in the intercooler? Does it stop them up also? Was just wondering!

MRBBQMAN- If you have a 99 with 30K miles and no leak, you might want to call "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" to see if they are interested in purchasing it for display purposes!! Hell, you might have the only one with that many miles and no leak!!

The green goo I was referring to is the ethylene glycol that goes through your motor when the i/c starts leaking. The BG is a milky looking color. It says right on the can, "will not harm cooling system components, nor will it cause blockage of coolant flow." I imagine if it did impair coolant flow you'd have a lot of overheated, blown motors, followed by a zillion class action law suits. My mechanic says its OK, and thats good enough for me. Stopped a very bad i/c leak immediately.

Intercooler leak info

MRBBQMAN

I have talked with the service manager at my dealer and he said that if you are over 36,000 miles and under 50,000 miles that they will do the fix at 20% of the total cost. He said that there was something about ford or Svt paying the other 80% of the price but not all of it. I have an appoitment Moday morning to take the L by and let them do the dye test and if I do indeed have the leak that is what they will do about price. I have 40,000+ miles on my L. Hope this is true about the price cause I do not what to pay $800 for there f@*% up.

Uh, I'm not a lawyer, but I think one could easily get them to pay for the whole thing. As we have all seen, its not a matter of WILL the I/C leak, but WHEN. You could cite all of the people on here that have had the problem as proof. They should pay for 100% of the fix, since it is a design problem(if it wasnt, why would they redesign the part? Mmmm hmm!)

Even if ford paid for 80% of the fix, do you know how much a ford service tec makes an hour. it would still cost more to buy it himslf and replace it.

Then this way he could still get a 01 setup!

just a thought.
