Lost Boost After Rev Limiter

Last night i had a street race with a 2000 ss. We did it rolling at around 30mph. I wanted to just leave it in drive, but you know that by the time it would have down shifted i would have been 2 cars behind. So i put it is first gear. The first time we raced i pulled him about 1 1/2 trucks in first and 2nd. I thought he would be closer so i slowed down. He said he missed 3rd. So we went again, but this time i shifted a little to slow and it hit the rev limiter. No big deal i thought. Then we tried again and it would only give me about 4 psi of boost instead of the 13 or so i was use to. (Yes i have a small upper pulley). We went back to the meeting place and i let it sit while checking under the hood. Everything looked fine. Drove home and raced some mustang rolling again, but in drive, and it ran fine. Beat him by about 5 trucks. Any ideas as to what happened. I thought the computer was doing something weird so i disconnected the battery since i got home till now.

When you hit the rev limiter, the PCM will dump the boost. To get it back, you have turn the truck off, wait a few seconds, then start it back up. There is a connector you can dissconnect, I would post the picture but I cant seem to find a photo hosting server that will allow me to post of UBB's. If you will send me an e-mail ill send you the picture...

Is your plug unhooked from your boost solenoid? If you hit the rev limiter it will cut boost!Josh

You don't have to reset the CPU on the truck, and you don't have to turn the truck off. Just wait about 10 or 15 senconds and everything will come alive again.

If you want to solve the problem then just unplug it!

If you really wanna solve the problem then get a chip and it will downshift a 30MPH so you don't have to mess with the shifter.

RACJAS330:

Say, is the only mod the pulley? Are they any issues with the increased boost with out a Chip Mod?

Sorry guys i have not updated my sig, but i currently have a JDM race chip, JBA headers, Upper pulley , and shift kit. I know it will down shift, but when you street race the way to win is to jump the other person. If you have to wait till it down shifts there will be no such jump. If they chase then it is a race. Thanks for the help guys.
