rough sounding engine at 9k miles
My engine at idle has a vibration and when it revs up to about 2600 rpm + it is worse. It just started to do this recently. Everything else is fine. I was thinking that it could be a coil pack? I don't know how to check if they are working. I checked one of the plugs and it looked okay. Has anyone had a problem similar that could give me some advice?
Sounds Like a Coil Pack...
Leonard:
Sounds like a coil pack to me. I've experimented around and disconnected one (to see the symptoms of a dead pack) and it sounds just like what you're describing.
I would recommend that you start up the truck and let it run for a good long time in the heat - perhaps your bad pack (if that is indeed the problem) will dry out and stop shorting.
If this doesn't work, loosen each pack in succession, wiggle it around, then re-seat it firmly on the plug. Also, make sure that your connections are tight (good terminal tension and full engagement).
Your final recourse will be to spend the $104.00 for a new coil and swap it in succession until you find the bad one. If this fails to find the problem, you might have to take your beast in and let the "butchers" pound on it with big, rusty hammers.
Perhaps you can find a lightly used coil pack or two in the junkyard. I'm thinking about searching one or two out soon, just in case. I'm a religious engine washer, so I'm sure my day will come.
