Need advice on refilling Transmission
How many times do I have to say this???
The 99, 00, and 01 Lightning transmissions require Mercon fluid, not Mercon V.
DO NOT use Mercon V in your Lightning.
Don't be a dipstick, READ your tranny dipstick and the Lightning supplement in your owners manual. It clearly states "Mercon ATF 15.0L".
Direct from the Lightning supplement:
"Ensure the correct automatic transmission fluid is used. Transmission fluid requirements are indicated on the dipstick or on the dipstick handle. Mercon and Mercon V are not interchangeable. DO NOT mix Mercon and Mercon V".
Fix the damn FAQ and get this straight.

Seems like the EPA would mandate a drain plug on tranny pans. every DIYer that ever installed a shift kit, put maybe what,, a gallon or so, of tranny fluid back to mother earth. the last one i did, my wife saw my "bloody arms" and thought the truck fell on me. So good luck der Speedy, the lift will be a godsend. if you shift back and forth from drive to reverse "gently", it helps to refill the convertor before your first test drive, then get ready to add a few qts more ( as most have already said) piece of cake

Thanks for the advice gentlemen.
Jarm',
I'm draining the converter as I have 28k on the ticker and it's time for fresh fluid throughout.
Ole,
I sent you an email. No problemo on starting @ 1:00. gives me time to prep for "surgery."
