No Boost
No Boost
Ok I looked through old threads with search and didnt really see anything, so if I missed it, I appologize now.
Anyhow, I drove my truck home to lunch, ran fine and like it normally does. About 45 min later, I went to leave and it started fine, but when I went to back up I noticed right then it felt like something was restricting the pedal. I got out on the road and started driving and it was doggy. I went to kick it down to pass and it wouldnt do it like usual. i tried again and watched the boost guage and noticed I wasnt getting anything there at all. Any ideas on why this is and above all how can I correct it short of a trip to the dealership?
Thanks in advance!!
Eric

Hi Eric
Man that one has me stumped, it sounds like tour boost bipas valve is stuck open, maybee you have a bad selinoid or a leaky vacuum line somewhere.
I don't know it is just a guess on my part.
Did you try unplugging the bipass electrical plug, mayee it will work with it unplugged, if it does it you will know what it is.
If anyone else has a idea let us know, like I said I am stumped by this problem.

Try to disconnect the the boost blow off (what ever it is called). Here is a picture of what you should try to disconnect:
uhhhhh, if you wanta see it send me an e-mail. Ofoto.com is not being very cool.....

How about now... it is still doing it? or was it a one time problem?
Think you need to take it to the dealer for this

I've had the same problem on my 00 L intermittantly over the last 6 months. I tried disconnecting the boost solenoid, and thought that helped, but It has happened again even with the solenoid disconnected. I only have the problem for the 1st 2-3 minutes of driving. The engine is very noisy while this is going on...not mechanically noisy-- just like you have 10 engine fans running at once. The boost guage will not show boost at all, but it does move up to the neutral zone. After a few minutes of driving it gets quiet, and boost comes back. Without boost, a Yugo could outrun it. I really need to get it checked out, but can't make myself take it to the neanderthals at the Ford service dept. I won't take my L in until something blows up or quits. They shouldn't have any problem diagnosing a grenaded engine...
Mister SVT, you have mail.
Another thought might be the trans getting to hot? We had this problem after doing a long burnout, but didn't touch the rev limiter. The trans got hot enough, it dumped the boost. That is when we put the 4x4 tranny pan on it and the biggest tranny cooler on it. We also moved the tranny cooler in front of the radiator to get more air. The stock small one sits right behind the bumper.

The sound of LOUD rushing air that scares the hell out of you is the stock fan engaged with the clutch fully locked due to high temps. iT is pushing a LOT of air. After a few minutes the fan clutch lets up and you dont hear it anymore. Here in Texas it happens all the time BUT mine only SCREAMS for less than a minute then it calms down....

Thanks, but I think this is more than that...It won't build any boost either. At the same time the noise goes away, I can build boost. I wonder if the computer is sensing something that is causing it to lock the fan and drop boost at the same time? Luckily, I've yet to make any (powertrain) mods, so Ford can't blame it on a chip, filter, or low tire pressure.
