Thumbs up Cam-Bolt kits

Just picked up the front end alignment cam-bolt kit at NAPA today. P/N 264-2953 for a whopping $13.85. Ford wants $100 and more tire shops want $50-$75. SpeedinBob clued me in so I thought I would share. Worth while investment before you head to the alignment shop.

Front end alignment under warrantee

Silver-Bolt,
That is a great price for the cam-bolts! It seems I remember paying well over $100 when having them installed on my '00 L.

Soon, will be my first time in to the dealer for an alignment, (under warrantee - 7600 miles) so I'm wondering if Ford will supply and install the cam-bolts? Also, I'm kinda wondering what the dealer will say when I present them the set of "Herbs washers" and ask them to install when doing the work.

"Man I wish Ford would improve the front suspensions on these bad boys"

I had my dealer install the washers and the cambolts before I took delivery. The tech guy was very impressed with the washers and said he thinks this is the first "fix" that will actually work. He had the official Ford Fix on his toolbox : Serrated washers, long breaker bar to tighten...

Silver-Bolt, Do you know if that NAPA part number is good for the 01 lightnings as well?

The cam-bolt kit is actually a universal F150 kit. Will fit all F150 based suspensions.

The cam-bolt kit is needed for proper front end alignment. From the factory F150's (Lightning included) are not adjustable for camber. This cures that. Actually allows the truck to be aligned within spec.

Side note. The Lightning alignment specs are different from the regular F150's.

Thanks for the info.

Now, if I may trouble you again. What are the L's specs in case I need to tell the alignment tech?

I cost me $275 total for the cambolt kits, installation and realignment. A little steep, but handled by someone I trust with my truck. It was fixed right the first time, and I had my truck back in 2.5 hrs.! I'll pay a little more for good service.

I did the exact same thing for about the same price.

My truck hasn’t had the weaving or clunk problem for about 8000 miles now.

Ford should just brake down and buy Herbs slotted washers for all the new Lightnings.

The scary part is that we’ll all enthusiast here, I wonder if the average f-150 truck owner also has this problem, but maybe he is isolated by the much more complacent tires on that truck and doesn’t feel the danger?

My Landscape Contractor heard the clunk from my Lightning and said all his f150's made the same "noise" and pulled to the right. Since all of them did it, he figured it was just the way Ford built them.

Just another reason to stay (ahead of everyone else) in the 'hammer lane'!
