How many of you have had to replace an ecm?

I lost drive and overdrive so I took my truck to the trans shop that put the level 10 in for me and they diagnosed it as the ecm. So I had them take the shift kit out and took it to the dealer. The dealer found the same thing. They replaced the ecm and the mlp sensor in the trans. They were pretty cool and could tell that I was running a chip, they said if it happens again they won't warantee it. I sent my chip back to be reflashed but am leary about putting it back in? Any suggestions?

You didn't need a new PCM. Having a chip sets a P0605 code, which means the PCM is bad to a dealer. But the code is set because the chip overrides the PCMs memory and when it does a memory test, it fails so it sets the P0605 code. The culprit was most likely the MLPS.

the only time weve lost a pcm at work was with a superchip installed in a 97f150, and it was making intermittant contact, the pcm was replaced and the guy got the chip replaced and we put it in for him the right way. We dont really care if our customers run chips though.

So if it happens in the future when I put the chip back in what do I do. How common is this and is there any preventitive measures I could take to reduce the risk?
