Angry need more power?

i got a new 2001 lighting and right now its got 300 miles on it.when i power brake this thing on asphalt its kinda hard to smoke the tires.they spin but not fast, and its to the floor to.its almost like its doing all it can just to get the tires to break lose.do they run better after you get some miles on it?and what can i get to get this thing to really smoke the tires.it should do this i think like it was in water shouldnt it?those tires really hook up uh.

I agree with misterP, break that truck in. When it has about 1500-2000 miles on the truck, it will scream.....TRUST ME!!!!

From what I understand, achip will make a huge differance in the tire smoking ability.I don't know for sure, just what I heard.

It moves better when the brakes aren't on. Give it a try.

sometimes i get that too!!! i have an 01 with 2000, but it still acts sometimes as if its usng 4 cylinders. I think is somethin with boost cut off or somethin like that. But, mine smokes the tires easily 99%of the time.

I have a totally stock 2000 L that cannot be nailed from a stop. The red beast must be nudged gently from a stop to WOT. Forget about stomping it when turning, it's like being on ice.

This was tested with 32 PSI in all four tires. I had the front wheels straight ahead, on clean, level pavement that is a few years old (still black). I have 3800 miles on the L with the same on stock 2000 compound F1's. I take really good care of my tires, whenever I feel it start to spin, I ease up. I just rotated them for the first time, front to back and check the pressure every week. I haven't seen any difference in available traction since rotation.

I don't see how a 20 point treadwear compound change could overcome the 3:55 to 3:73 gear change and the 20 extra horses. The lower gear and 20 HP should make for less traction, not more.

Another L mystery?

No mystery at all. But lots of variables.

Maybe Ford just pulled some timing out - off idle, to compensate for the gears and hp...

Drive it like you stole it...

It's been said many, many, times...the L makes much more power after a 3K-5K break in period. When I first got mine it wouldn't even whimper the tires when I hammered it from a stop. Today, I nailed it at about 15-20 mph to merge with traffic, and got instant tire smoke until second gear (about .0001 sec) Your trucks will pull much stronger after a few thousand miles of enthusiastic break in driving. You'll soon have to modulate the fast pedal to go fast.

skip the break-in period. just swap your new, gooey tires for some 5000 mile-old tires and you'll have smokin' tires in an instant...
