Talking Post G3 Show---Review...

Everyone,

Last night was the G3 show here in DC. It was my first G3, but my 2nd Vai & Satch shows....We sat 12th row center on the floor. My .02:

The opener was John Petrucci from Dream Theatre. I didn't know what to expect but he was pretty good. His drummer(also from Dream Theatre) was incredible. I think most of the material he played was written new for his G3 spot......Maybe on an album soon???? His song arrangement was good as well as his solos.....

2nd up Vai....What can be said?? He is truely a master of working the audience. While I read the reviews bashing Satch for not having his best material, certainly one could say that about Vai. After seeing him on the Ultra Zone tour, about 1/2 the material he played was definitely NOT his best. Although seeing him together with Billy Sheenan was worth it. Definitely 2 guys that could be joined at the hip. BTW, the opener was Shyboy (From DLR) with Billy singing. And singing pretty good I might add.....

Songs Included: For the Love of God, The Animal, 2 songs from his new 2CD set, Shyboy, 1 from the Ultra Zone....

3rd Up Satch.....Again, what can be said?? While he may not have the stage antics of Vai, he can definitely wail!! He seemed a bit more in control of his set, not just aimlessly wailing. His blues playing was pretty sweet also. What gives with the shaved noggin???

Songs Included: Summer Song, Always with Me, ALways with You, Satch Boogie, Rasberry Jam, The Extremist, Surfing with the Alien, Devils Slide...

4th Up: All 3 PLUS Vinnie Moore.....The G3 covers rocked!!! No Doubt!! From ZZ Top to Hendrix and everywhere in between. This was a great combo!! Vinnie Moore looked a little stage shy...Get up front Vinnie... Imagine if you will, all 4 gents trading off solos....

Songs Included: La Grange, Voodoo Chile, Little Wing, Going Down

Summary: If you haven't seen it and you like any one of these guys, SEE IT!! If you play the guitar and want to be humbled...Dont go Really, if you play at any level, this is a show to see......

Enjoy

Thumbs up G3

sounds like it was a good show Brian. I'm a big fan of Satch and Vai.

thanks for the review.

Saw the show when they were in Denver late last month. I just wish I would have been sober enough to remember it. What I do remember totally rocked though. A must see for sure

Caught the show here in Detroit last week. Great show as always. Was surprised to hear that JP wrote all new songs inbetween the start of the tour and finishing up the new Dream Theater album. I hope he puts this stuff out on his own CD.

Vai and Satch were great as always. The jam at the end included Neal Schon from Journey as they were in town the next couple nights. Sames songs as what Brian said. Almost thought we'd see Peter Frampton as well as he's touring with Journey.

Cool GUITAR VIRTUOSO

I am jealous! I saw Vai years ago on Westheimer in Houston...the Passion and Warfare Tour...then I saw Vai/Satriani/Eric Johnson at the Austin Music Hall years after that....most people don't know who these guys are...they are about as rare as Lightnings!! I hightly recommend ANYONE who has ANY MUSIC APPRECIATION to go see these guys! I have played guitar for over 30 years and can wail some myself!! Dream Theater is awesome too...
