Why are so many gaga over GT3?

This is not a slam on anyone, I understand the appeal of arcade style console racing games. They are fun, and great for social gaming.
That being said, I urge anyone who likes GT3 to check out some of the PC racing sims on the market today. These "sims" are at realism level that is mind boggling. I am talking about realistic handling and behaving cars, but if you like eye candy, check out 1280x1024, 32-bit color, with full scene anti-aliasing and compare that to the 640x480 GT3 puts up on your TV screen.
For the whole experience, you really need cable or DSL, a 1 Ghz or so PC, a Geforce family 32mb card, and a driving wheel and pedals setup. Then you are good to go. Don't even get me started on internet multiplayer. If it is fun to race these stupid artificial intelligence drivers in arcade games, just imagine what it is like to go toe to toe with 40 other real people in a 20 lap sprint race at Daytona or Bristol. Trust me, it will blow your mind!
The 2 best simulations ever are NASCAR 4 and Grand Prix Legends. If you can drive one of these things fast enough to hang with the fast guys in internet races, you have really accomplished something. If you are into real cars, I can't think of a better way to learn suspensions and driving techniques than a full bore racing simulator.

mracer, I couldn't agree more.
I'm a sim addict, too. I admin an online N4 league, and run in another N4 league and a GPL league.
My kid has every console and game known to man and I never even touch 'em. GT3 was cute, but ...

F1 2000, F1 2000 CS, NFS3, Driver, and GPL (some) here using a M$ Force Feedback wheel.
Oh, and Carmageddon just for the kill factor...
Haven't been bitten by the Grand Turismo bug....yet.

GT3 is the best looking racing game i've seen so far, on any platform. the truth is the difference between 640x480 and 1280x1024 is not all that noticeable (espically when you sit 8-10 ft. from the screen). The best looking racing game that runs well on my PC is porsche unleashed (I can only run it at 1024x768), and while it certainly looks good, GT3 is better, especially in replay mode.
GT3 also seems to have an extremely accurate physics model and the analog sticks and buttons allow for a surprising amount of control.
I think the best thing about the GT series is the simple fact that i've been playing it every free moment since last wednesday and I'm only 14.5% done... its an incredibly long and challenging game, and while some PC games may have slightly better graphics, they always fail to deliver either in gameplay or length of game.... most games, regardless of genre, i tend to finish in about 5-10 days; this simply isnt possible in GT3, and I love it.
Plus... I like sitting in my chouch and looking at a "low-res" 27" TV much more than my 17" computer monitor.
GT3 is addicitive as crap and I think its far better than any previous racing games... it may not be the most realisitic or good to look at, but it comes close and i dont think theres another game that even comes close

And to think that I was the only sick bast*#d that enjoyed running over pedestrians, small animals and an occasional small tree. I guess you and me, Speedin Bob are the only ones who enjoy Carmageddon. I also enjoy Nascar 4 with the Indianapolis 500 force feedback wheel

i have a sony 61" tv...i heard if you play video games on these that it could "burn" the image into the screen..?? does anyone know if this is true? just don't want to screw up the tv but GT# would be awesome on it

Gator,
Nothing like a few cold ones then a friendly game of deathmatch.

**EDIT** bad desktop theme. Locked my machine up big time.

The reason this game is so great is becasue of the attention to detail given to everycar.the z06 has the red calipers, the cobra R is also amazing on the game.
also we have a 63" HD widescreen TV in our bar and it just looks even better.the PS2 was set up to be used on this TV.

I personally like the game cause its one of the most realistic racing game in terms of graphics and physics ive seen yet. The cars are very detailed up to the point where you can see the reflections from the road in the car. Plus when it rains your car handles totally different. Also in replay mode the video is so great that when the car brakes you can see the brake rotor begin to glow. These may be small details but thats what I think makes it a great game.
