And they say our trucks cant handle.

Nice driving pawn, its time to mod your suspension, I am sure the fellow that took first did.

Way to go!
What class are you running? I ran FS about 6 weeks ago. This trucks handle alot better than I thought it would. Looking forward to doing it again.

Too bad you can't race side by side. I'm sure having to look up at you in your truck would intimadate him. Keep trying you will persevere.

I ran in an autox today for the first time in 4 yrs. Back then, I drove a Camaro Z281LE.

It was in the low 90sF-on asphalt. I made 4 runs. My L handled ok(no suspension mods, F1s), but it didn't seem to run(in 2nd gear) as crisply as it does in the 1/4(?). I didn't spin out or knock any cones over--really better than I expected. I ran as a Novice in FS.

Times would be meaningless and I didn't hang around to see where I placed. Before the cars and my truck(only one entered) ran, they ran go-carts--young kids first and adults second for about a 1/2 hour. I think one of the adult carts took best time.

Question

LIGHTNINROD, you mention it didn't run as crisply in 2nd. Did you run with it with the shifter in 2nd? I think the L does the same as other Ford trucks in 2nd. That is that it is in 2nd period. It never starts in 1st then shifts into 2nd, it just runs in 2nd gear from start to stop. Intended to be kind of a "winter weather" feature I guess.

Just curious mostly, to see if the L does the same.

You ran in F-stock with this stuff on your car:
PSP lower pulley, JL chip(street), air intake, & drive shaft loop, JDM race chip, oil breather, Mark's throttle body
Wow. I have just a PSP filter on my truck right now (have warranty work coming up), and I had to run E-Street Prepared...so I ran ESPN (novice index).

The SM guy (all novices get indexed together, so he was actually SMN) had suspension/tires/etc.

It was ~90 here as well today, I'm running 20k/mi F1's (really need some new ones). Everyone there loves to see the truck go buy, they're always amazed at how well it handles with that much power under its rear.

There were, of course, the always fast car, but I'm sure I'd shave a good 1-2 seconds off my time by throwing on some competition tires, let alone doing suspension work. I'm hoping the next time this group races (October), I'll have tires, breaks and suspension work done.

It definately is alot of fun and it is great for learning how well you can push the limits of the truck in what would be more "everday driving" (0-70mph) stuff.

Thanks Familyride: I just thought that holding it in 2nd, it would down shift to 1st. Your responce indicates it doesn't, and now that I think back; it didn't downshift. That's why it felt sluggish-not crisp. So, I'll leave it in Drive next time, right?

I also ran a solo II event on Sunday and come to think about it I believe you are correct. I ran the L in 2nd and when I would take off it was SLOW. At one point I brake torqued it to about 2g and it did not turn the tires at the start.

Great Job

Nice going pawn!
I miss my truck. I have been TDY down here in D.C. for the last 10 days with a week to go. I can't wait to get home and go for a drive!

That does not seem right. I run in Fstock and start and run the whole course in 2nd. I have to really be carefull when leaving the startline because if you push the throttle to the floor too quickly, it will spin the tires. The same happens on almost all the corner exits. Wheelspin (inside wheel) for 20 or 30 feet...

Great job Daniel ! Isn't running worn F1's like running those shaved road course tires?

I wish! Shaved road course tires are a different rubber...they're stickier, where as I'm not.
