Unhappy installed superchip....now lightning does not start.

OMG!! just installed a superchip in my 2001 lightning. now it will not start. just cranks and cranks.

anyone have any ideas?

i am concerned about continuously attempting to start the truck if this is damaging something. (computer?)

i thought i read somewhere that it takes a couple extra rpms to start the motor after a computer reset.

also, i have also read that simply disconnecting the negative cable on the battery does NOT fully reset the computer. does anyone know the additional steps in fully reseting the computer?

thanks all in advance!

RECLEAN the contacts on the PCM. Bet a case of beer that you missed one.

You may have seen this but here are pictures I took when I took mine apart. http://www.svtlightnings.com/svt/chip/chip.htm

As fast Gator said It goes back together easy

I'll bet two cases of beer, a bottle of Jack Daniels and a qt of moonshine that you didn't clean the contacts completely. You probably just tried to clean the contacts thru the port, if so take the computer apart, it only goes back one way.

Three things can cause this.

1. As stated above you did not clean off all the protective coating.

2. In you zelousness not only did you clean off the protective coating but you also cleaned off the silver contact strip. Be careful.

3. Remove and reinstall chip. Slide all the way up. If doesn't work. disconnect battery and slide all the way down. DO NOT TRY AND SLIDE WITH CHIP IN AND BATTERY CONNECTED.

4. Truck starts ok with chip removed and you have tried above, send chip back.

Cool

If the bracket that holds the pcm is the same on the 2001 then you might need to bend the edge of it straight so the chip will seat properly.

Use a six inch half strip of good ole duct tape, electrical tape stretches.

one more thing to check.

Did you reattach the wiring harness to the PCM?

Talking

ok....i owe some folks some beer.

many thanks all !!!!

removed the chip, re-cleaned, scraped andbuff the connectors one more time........ hit it with some alcohol too.

this time, i also did the headlights on with the computer reconnected and battery disconnected to fully reset the computer.

i am not sure which one of these, or the combination of both did the trick, but either way, works now..............AND BOY DOES IT WORK!!!

this thing hits HARD now! sotp dyno says gooo things. i love it.

thanks again for the info guys!

I also had that problem with my '00. All the gauges would go to the right and the truck would turn over and over. It ended up that the chip I had recieved was for '01. Once I got the right chip it started fine!
