Finally Activated The Nitrous For The 1st Time Last Night!!!

Last night I got off work early and instead of going home I decided to go to a long stretch of highway and try out my 75hp NOS Dry system for the first time. I was wanting to run it the first time at the track but after talking with Spiro I couldn't wait any longer. I was running my F-1's and activated it as soon as the truck shifted into 2nd gear. All I can say is that it felt AWESOME!! I couldn't believe how hard a 75hp shot would push me back into the seat! As soon as the nitrous activated the tires barked slightly and it was simply gone. It was like a whole new truck. I was using the JDM nitrous program with 93 octane. There was no pinging whatsoever. The motor just pulled like hell and after the initial burst it was smooth all the way to 115 mph. I have to admit that I was a little worried that I might blow my motor by running nitrous with the blower but now I have put those fears aside.

Are you using the NOS 5115 mustang kit? Did the chip affect the trucks performance in 1st gear w/o the juice on? Are you using stock plugs? Sorry for so many questions, I'm trying to set up an N20 system myself. Thanks...

rscoleman- I am running the NOS 5115 kit. The only thing I added was the NX bottle heater and the nos purge. When running the nitrous side of my chip I really can't tell much of a performance loss. It seems just to be a little less responsive. I guess this is due to Jim pulling out some of the timing out to compensate for the nitrous. Trust me though, the nitrous more than makes up for the reduction in timing. I must be honest, It's not safe to use the nitrous on the street unless you are somewhere that it is completey straight and without any other cars around. It almost feels like the L is going to lift off the ground!

Lightning Jeff- I am running Tr-6's.

No kidding, Heck I was thinking about calling NOS and seeing how long nitrous could be stored in a bottle before it expired! LOL

Hdmlnium- I am not sure that I could get in the 11's with just a 75hp shot but I am sure that I would be real close. What I do know is that with nitrous I shouldn't lose many street races!

Flintstone- I talked with Jim@JDM about the plugs and he told me for just a 75hp shot and occassional use that the TR'6 would be fine. He stated that if I planned on running a larger shot and running it more often that I should go with the TR7's. Seems to me that using the TR9's(which are 4 heat ranges colder) that the L wouldn't run very well while not on the bottle.

NX bottle warmer comments...

Hankfan,

I also use the NX bottle warmer setup with the pressure switch and would like to make suggestion in it's use. NX makes a manifold that can replace the pop-off disk on the back of the valve (bottle side, not the line side of the valve) that has two fittings on it for accessories. I have them on all of my bottles and use the fittings to mount the pressure switch and a pressure gauge.

This allows the pressure switch to see bottle pressure at all times and prevents the bottle from overheating if the warmer is left on w/the valve closed. I have done this myself and the warmer got really hot and could have popped the disk or even (God-forbid!) caused the bottle to rupture (Maxima explosion flashback). The manifold is pricey, and as far as I know, only available from NX, but it's a saftey mod that I won't ever be without again.

I highly recommend that anyone using the NX bottle heater get one of these for each bottle, along with a guage (it makes it easy to see if the bottle is charged) and a pressure switch. Both manifold (~$50, outrageous!) and pressure switch ($129) are expensive, but I cannot put a price on saftey, especially when it means protecting both me and my lil Black Beast. Fortunately the gauges aren't as expensive as the other pieces (I don't remember how much right now).

If anyone wants to purchase these pieces, I can get them through my company (Velocity Motorsports is an NX dealer). Email me at velocitymotorsports@netzero.com if interested.

I am not actively trying to sell here, this is a saftey issue. I want to make these pieces available, and am making the offer only in the interest of saftey. Anyone I deal with that has the NX or similar kit, gets this speach from me. I only want there to be no mishaps with something that can be so dangerous.

Hey guys just a warning to you all, Jeff is right about the TR9's. You can use the tr6's with a 50 shot and maybe, just maybe a 75 if you dump enough fuel in there, but I've been told by the nitrous express guys, and also some of the top outlaw, and renegade drivers to run a tr8 and tr9 in the truck when I spray it 75 and over. I sprayed my truck with a 100 shot and I burned up some electrodes pretty bad, so check those plugs and check them again, check check check. Also a EGT tempature sensor helps out.
