Talking Is this possible??????????

Last night i was tagging along behind a friends GT as she was about to race a TT Supra.......this other guy on the interstate pulled in front of her and she had to slow down so i thought what the hell so i took out after the Supra........he was then about 5 or 6 carlengths ahead of us so i punched it...............and proceeded to walk past him................I passed him steadly and kept walking away.................when i hit 140 i let off....and got on the brakes.......he then blew by me...............I couldnt believe my Lightning smoked a TT Supra..............when we got off the interstate to turn around he told me that his turbos didnt get wound up........then he told me he was gonna use his NOS but didnt have a bottle...............I was so pumped I just told him to bug off.........................Could it be for real.........I beat a TT Supra???????????????? you decide.......as for me and my friend........it looked like i smoked him fair and square........

Which L were you in?

It is possible he did not have the turbo's "spooled up",
BUT having raced turbo'd cars before to spool up the turbos all you need to do is downshift and get the revs up in to the turbos usable range. I have not driven a Supra TT, however if his car is that fast I don't think the guy could drive. If you were 6 lengths behind he had plenty of time to downshift and get his turbos spooled up. There is NO WAY he has that much turbo lag.
If you were in the '94 L w/130K, WOW! that means change it to read; still going.........REAL STRONG!
Reguardless,
NICE KILL

Cool

He's talking crap. At higway speed a downshift should spool the turbos up pretty quick. The only time he might have a lag problem is out of the hole. I use to own a GN and a friend has a 95 RX7 so I know this from experience. If he is stock then that's pretty much how they run but they can wake up alot with mods.

Yeah... people who dont own turbo cars are always talking about "spooling up" and turbo lag... most modern day turbos have less than a second of lag, even without a down-shift.

On top of that, my turbo make its full 12psi of boost at like 2100rpms... my Lightning makes about 3psi of boost at such a low rpm.

If my memory serves me right, don't those Supra's click off about 13.6 or so? I know they suck at top speeds (hoods start to pull off around 135 or so) Read that in C&D back in 93 They are not as aerodynamic as they look.Testers had to duct tape all the seams along the hood and pillars to keep it together!

OK, coming from a supra owner. My car ran a 12.8 @106mph with freemods, i ran with open air filter and exhaust. 0$ invested to run a 12.8.

But supras are not 1/4 mile cars, they are top end cars...they will easily run 180mph with the governer pulled....

And no their hoods dont pull off, you are talking about transams...i have had mine up to 155, and it felt just as secure as i was going 50mph.

Lightings are nice, no doubt, but supras are not slow and this was a non turbo supra. he is full of **** if he says his turbos arent spooled, if he got past 4000rpms (if he had laggy stock twins on ttc) then he was in full boost. this must have been a wanna be tt owner, because the highway is where they shine....

'Coulda been a pretenda'

As someone already said. If many ordinary three series owner throw M-badges on their trunk lids, Integra owners buy type R stickers, Civic Owners spring for Si badges, this guy could have been in that crowd. Maybe hes got the TT badge but only some minor breathing mods and he thought cause you're in a truck that he could take you easily and you'd never know he doesn't have NOS or turbos. Usually people with nothing but the badge will only challenge what they think is easy pickins so nobody finds out there's nothing special under the hood.

You also mentioned your friend who was gonna run with him at first was in a GT. Maybe he took off thinking he could beat the GT not expecting you to jump in.

Hey Keith. Ya know, when I get my Vette in 2 weeks, I'm gonna put some front air screens on, some brake cooler ducts, and even add some Z06 badges on the side. You think it'll look good? Hell, I might as well throw in the LS6 also. ....................

I have a few friends with Supra's and they are very fast stock. Throw a boost controller, chip, and a few other mods and they will run high 11's no problem.

I saw the test that C&D TV did on the Supra. It was a top speed run with several performance cars. They had to put duct tape on the hood to keep it from bending up. Fast cars though. Just can't believe Toyota didn't catch that pre-production.
