Borla or Magnaflow

I would like to get your opinions on which set-up's some of you are using? I realize that there are not much performance gains, on the Lightnings exhaust. What IM looking for is a more throaty sound?

Thanks Oscar,

I have the Borla System and after about a week break in time, it sounds great. Borla really emphasizes the back pressure sound.(the sound that you get when you let off the pedal after a nice rev) I didn't see any gains from it though.

I know this may be dumb to ask, but isn't the factory muffler a Borla design? I know I'm wrong

I have the Magnaflow 12468 and sounds great. At WOT it sounds awesome and lets out a burly noise. At idle it is a deep mellow pitch. Not too loud but just perfect for my ears.

I had a borla on my 97', and I loved the sound. Didn't notice much power at lower end, but higher end benifited. Was pricey but I think the sound and quality of the system made the Borla definitely worth it, and I do change the exhuast on my L it will most likely be borla.

bfb, The factory muffler is ford's design and when you take off the factory muffler you can tell it is. Borla's is a little bit longer.

Currently I"m running a Magnaflow 14568 on my L. Like it very much, but wish I had spent the extra $10 and gotten the 14468. It's not a lot louder than stock, but you can hear it more and the sound's deeper. Supposedly the 14468 is even louder as it's a smaller muffler.

I had a Borla catback on my 97 4x4. Sounded great, especially like what 2_Fast4U says about the backpressure sound. The Magnaflow will do it also to some extent, but you need to manually shift down as you approach a stop or such. Not sure how good that is for your tranny though.

All told, my MF cost about $250, including the install as I had the place mandrel bend some new stainless pipe. I'd do it again if I got another L.

Bob

Do you have any pics of what the borla system looks like for the L's?

I use Bassani's full setup, and I love it - sounds awesome. One of the members "hdmlnium" has a cool post (use search feature) in which he recorded the sound of his Bassani exhaust system at WOT and while driving on the freeway!!! The name of the post is "Lightning Videos." I watch them at least a couple of times a week. Check them out, you will be amazed!!!

Later,

Dave
