Any alternative to the Goodyear F-1???
O.K., 16,000 miles and my F-1's are shot. Those tires just plain stunk. They were nice for the 1st 5,000 miles or so, and then turned into wandering, low-spot hunting, rock-hard riding, bouncing pieces of crud. I'm not that concerned with the longevity, but I would like a tire that doesn't go down the tubes performance-wise in the 1st 5,000 miles. I wish Michelin built a Pilot Sport in our size (that's what I run on my Saleen). And that's my question, is there any alternative to the Goodyears in a 295-45 X 18 ??? I can't seem to find one. I'd be happy to pay more for a better tire. I used to have Goodyear GSC's on a Vette, and they were incredible. These F-1's are junk. Wonderful when new, then after no time junk.
I'm almost at 3k miles on my 01' and I've noticed that the tires are starting to get ilky. I was coming up a curve in the road and I just felt the tires wanting to give and slide, it was raining but I was only at about 30mph.
Heres a pic of the toyos ,i love the tribal
sidewall design ,these are definately goin on my truck after the f1s

Clunk fix...
Hey red2k,
Did you get the dealer "clunk" fix. How is it working? My dealer is supposed to fix my "clunk" under warranty, but I was wondering if it would really fix it.

Thanks all. I've had those BFG Comp T/A's on two '96 Cobras I bought brand new (bought a black one, sold it to my sister after a couple months and then bought a Mystic). Man, I could leap into a looonnng rant about those square, noisy, foul Flinstone BFG tires. I think I will. I said the F-1's were junk, but.......Both Cobras were shaking, VIOLENTLY, within 3,000 miles of new. My sister and I both had the same exact problem. I went to the dealership, and they said "sorry, the tire manufacturer warrants those". I went to BFG and they said, "It's not the tires, it's your wheels". Went back to Ford, "The wheels are true, it's the tires". I never did resolve this B.S., just bounced around (not to mention the they sounded like mud tires) and cussed until the car got traded in on my Saleen (Michelin Pilots, baby) at 9,000 miles. My sister continued the fight. Ford finally said it was faulty control arms, and did a recall notice on those saying it would fix the problem. Nope. No improvement. Finally the tires were well worn, and she replaced them with a dead-cheap set of Falcans. Bingo, the car rode as smooth and silk, and it still does 20K miles later. I'll never come near a BFG product again, let alone a comp T/A. Most Cobra owners I've talked to since agree, and I know of no one who actually replaced their BFG's with another set of BFG's. I'll check out those Toyos. Thanks again!
Twice the price?? Can anybody confirm what the "best" price is on those? I hate like he11 going back with another set of Goodyears. I looked at the Tirerack site, and consumers rated the BFG lower than the Goodyear in all catagories, including wear, wet & dry traction, and ride. Not a ringing endorsement for either if that's the case.
Huuummmmm..I don't know?
I've got 5500 miles on my F1s--17 drag strip passes--in middle-damnhot-Ga., and mine still look and ride like new. I'm satisfied so far.
And, it's hard to beat BFGSs R1s for road course racin'. They stick good in the high-speed turns(on my 91 Z281LE) at Road Atlanta.

Yea, ya gotta buy new wheels but a set of these and wheels cost me less than a set of F1s. They last twice as long and cost about 110 each. Ride much better than the f1s, have a higher load rating, are much better in the rain, and are speed rated for 130. At 30.6" in diameter your speedo will be off 5 mph at 70, but who ever looks at the speedo anyway. Caught a lot a flak from the purest, but these are great tires. I sold my rims for $700 on ebay.
All the 18" tires available are soft and won't last 25K.

I bought the Ultra wheels from Discount tire. They cost me 400 for four.

I LIKE the F1s! Got 30K out of the first set, including an SVT OnTrack and lots of 1/4-mile passes at Milan last August (SVT Experience). Stayed smooth and easy (but not quiet) right down to the wear bars. Awesome grip, wet or dry. I now have 8K miles on my second set. No harshness, none of the problems all y'all complain about.
Are the tires seriously over-inflated? Have you pounded-out a control arm bushing?

I just received my 20" Foose Spank rims with Toyo Proxes S/T tires (295/45R20) for $4,500. I am installing them this weekend since they sent me the wrong size lug nuts - 12 x 1.75mm vs. 14 x 2 mm. Does anyone know whether 14 x 2mm chrome lug nuts are commonly carried in auto parts stores?? Alignment shops?? I am not able to check until Sat.

I'm all ears, any Toyo tire'd owners out there?? Are they the exact size, or have you settled for a lower profile tire?
