Question Performance Question ???

This past weekend I met some local "L" owners, while discussing our vehicles the subject of "burning out" came up. I own a 01, and from a dead stop, if I stomp the gas I get a chirp but the tires hook up almost immediately and i'm gone. Some of the other "L" owners are able to light up the tires quite a bit before they bite. Is this due to the different tires and or rearend gear ratios ?

Opinions ???

...more like different street and temperature conditions.

This St. Louis heat wave $ux... She runs like a beast, but nothing like last week when we had a nice 70degree night... It's been 90 degrees until about 12pm every night here.

I've run mine in a wide range of temps and humidity levels and the best I can get is a chirp.

Mine is the same as yours. If I stomp it I can get a little chirp if anything and I am gone. I guess that is good for racing, but once in a while it would be nice to roast them. If I use the brake I can get them to burn a little. I am not sure if it is the new compound that gy talks about or what.

Mine is also a 2001. I here that once the engines get several thousand miles on them that they loosen up a bit and get more power.

Not sure

...actually they DO loosen up - in the rear end after about 1500 miles... Different roads will give you different results. Before my chip and filter, I could tear 'em, up a bit from a dead stop - but not everytime. Heat soak, concrete roads, etc... all give different outcomes... almost went sideways one time in downtown St. Louis in 60 degree weather! Fortunately for me (and others) I did it on a dead street.

I now have 4500 miles on mine, and no change.

mine was the same...

my 2001 (now has 2000 miles) was the same way. I was upset, thought I had gotten a "slow one". Stomp the gas from a stop without any powerbraking and the truck would just take off, zero noticable wheelspin and zero smoke. I had a friend go for a ride with me in the truck one time and he actually outright said after a dead stop take off, "Oh, you cant make it spin the tires???" Man was I embarrassed. I told him that it was faster if you didn't spin, that the truck was just hooking up and all that crap. but deep down I wanted at least the ability to smoke the tires on demand. anyway, after a chip mod my truck has run 13.20's in the quarter mile, so I know it is making plenty of power. Also, the morning that I put the chip in I roasted the tires from a dead stop for the first time. I mean, I just stomped the gas like normal and it blew them off, screaching and squealing and leaving black marks on the road. Awesome!!! interestingly enough, most times even now when I stomp it from a dead stop the truck just takes off without the drama, but occasionally it'll blast 'em. If I powerbrake at all before take off it'll smoke 'em everytime. I think it has ALOT to do with Temperatures, air temperature, humidity, road and tire temps, engine temps, etc. just my two cents.

later,
chris

when mine had about 1000 miles on it, it wouldnt smoke them, but would definitely spin them about 4 or 5 feet...when it had about 1500 it would leave 6/7 foot marks...now it has 3000 miles on it and will turn sideways if i'm not careful...bone stock except a muffler. This is in 80 - 90 degree temps. I have only got on it from a stop 2 or 3 times...I want my tires to last

To get the best launch possible, I think I would have to roll about 2 feet and then floor it...
