Can the 01 calibration be applied to a 99?
I can't help noticing that the 01L, with its 3.73 axle, has the same EPA ratiings as my 99L with its 3.55 axle. Everything else being equal, the 01L's ratings, especially the highway rating, should be lower than the earlier models.
I recall reading something on this board about 01Ls running leaner under part-throttle than 99Ls and 00Ls. 'Zat true? And if it is, can a similar calibration be retrofitted to the earlier trucks? Do any of our chip makers have a leaner (part throttle) street program?

Your L runs in one of two modes. At low throttle settings it is in closed loop meaning that the computer is constently looking at the O2 sensor for mixtures in the exhaust and then adjusts the fuel at the injectors to get back to the right amount of fuel. At big throttle openings this is all up to the tuner (either Ford or Others) to control the fuel. So bottom line on the highway, the o2 sensors run the show.

FOREWORD - I am not selling ANYONES chip, as a matter of fact I don't use a chip.
Did a search for a guy named "Masterloggie", this is what he said. " The 2000 Red Bolt has 28,000 miles and still a blast to drive. I use it as a daily commuter. Got Sal to give me an economy program on my 4 way chip since I take a few trips, now I get 18.4 MPG at 80MPH on the Interstate versus the 15.6 MPG before. Still have the GO FAST Programs too. Joy to drive. "
If Sal can do it, I'm sure your chip burner can too... or go with Sal.

At 80 you may be at the edge of open loop and at that point the tuners can play some with milage by not letting the L go into what the Ford tuners refer to "butt rich mode". This rich mode is the way that Ford assures the EPA that at full buggy the truck will stay in a mixture that the cat converters can deal with. I bet you can also play with timing some at this point.
