Question Care & cleaning of Ram Air Filter

I got the chance to install the JL Ram Air today & I must say that it makes the supercharger sound AWESOME . I just have a couple of questions about cleaning the filter. First one is how often should I clean it ? Second question is how exactly do you clean it & what do you use to clean it with ? Thanks for any help or info.

I hope you got the pre-filter, the boot that fits over the conical filter. I had mine on for a few weeks and decided to clean the end of the filter where it goes into the fender opening. I had dirt and dust on the end of the filter that it looked like I had the filter on about a year. With the pre-filter, I just wiped it off in a few seconds and was ready to cruise. If I didnt have the pre-filter I think it would be a difficult cleaning.

Yes I did get the pre-filter(sock). So with that on then the filter will stay clean for a lot longer? I didn't realize that it would help out so much.

Get the K&N oil kit, then read the instructions, I don't have them in front of me now, so I don't want to be "quoted" giving the wrong info.

yes you can get the k&n oil kit this will work fine and getting the pre-filter was a good idea it really keeps the filter clean for along time. how often should you check it, will depend on the area you drive and how often you drive, you will get bugs ect.. forced into the end of the filter thats why i reccomend the pre-filter it works great! and when your at the track you can remove it. if you want to get a little extra air to maybe make it a little quicker.....JL

For me, rule of thumb is take it apart about every 3 weeks to remove the little pebbles, sticks, spiders, etc. Pre-filter is a must!

Thumbs up

DON'T USE the K&N Oil KIT. It's a big rip off for $12-15.00+.
Use " Westleys Bleach White (for tires) Same thing in the Oil kit and pick up the SPRAY K&N Oil 10 oz for about $ 6.00 You have a total of $8.00 invested and you can clean your filter 20 times or more compared to K&N oil kit (2 times).
I clean mine every month or sooner.
Just some info for you'all.

Dan

Or if you're like me you already have a whole crapload of Westleys BW, cuz you bought it at Sam's Club years ago and everybody knows they don't do nothin small, and that way you only have to spend 6 bucks.
